A future revolution to defend free speech online

Post by weatheriscool »

A future revolution to defend free speech online is becoming extremely likely and possibly a top issue in electons. We seriously need to start pushing back against the government for our ability to speak freely online and for the internet we grew up with. One that is free and a place to learn, discuss and not feel threaten by fascist governments.Quite literally acting like Russia, China, Iran or North Korea shouldn't be acceptable.

I think within the next 3-5 years political parties will lose elected office because of this issue. The UK and French elections could be the start of this as they will likely be the issue that wins or loses political careers. Young people will come out against anyone that votes to silence them and old people will vote against having to show an id and against threats. It will become a serious issue that wins elections and will be debated on the political stage and in major political debates. Probably a top 2-3 issue.

Longer term I could see revolutions and violence breaking out if they threaten our ability to take part in social media and apart of the online global community. We may see coupes and over throwing of governments in the 2030's because of this issue.

I think Weather's analysis of the situation misunderstands the current geopolitical landscape. Why of course, it is instead the cancellation of Doctor Who that is more significant in terms of long-term political consequences.
