Great. Yet more far-right insanity and accelerated decline of the "lungs of the Earth".weatheriscool wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2026 11:46 pm https://x.com/MarioNawfal/status/2106889174066622598
Why are so many voters so effing stupid and short-sighted these days? The world seems determined to plunge into a dystopian hellscape ruled by extremist tyrants.

Sometimes I feel "humans are inherently socialist" gets overblown by intersectionalists and internationalists who simultaneously fail to also acknowledge that humans are also tribalistic as well and not equipped to think of anyone outside their group. Most mainstream politics seems to fall back onto one or the other to justify their policies ("humans are inherently altruistic and socialistic" or "humans are inherently greedy and selfish")wjfox wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2026 11:38 amGreat. We're not going to get anywhere relying on people inherently doing what seems like the right thing, because other groups might determine something WE think is wrong to be in their best interests. That's why it's so easy for billionaire media moguls to convince the plebians to vote "against their best interests"
For many people, they have no stake or interest in things like common or worker ownership, and have no interest in sacrificing their own personal, regional, or national development just because "it may make the planet warmer"
To say nothing of the history of Latin America in general, which a cynical read would say "they've had a strong disdain of democratic republics for decades"
Brazilians themselves have said their golden age was under a literal Emperor, and then again under a parafascist military dictatorship.
I just don't know; some days I wonder if this whole liberal democracy thing is a fad enforced by the primacy of the West than a historical inevitability, and the further we slip from that primacy, the more we'll just return to an era of strongmen and hierarchy.
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future
