Honda Reports Declining Profit as Trump’s tariffs and EV Moves Hurt Japanese Automaker’s Results
February 10, 2026

Introduction:
(The Associated Press via Asahi Shimbun) Honda reported Tuesday a 42% drop in profit for the nine months through December, compared to a year earlier, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs hurt the Japanese automaker’s earnings.
Additional Extract:
The slowdown in electric vehicles in the U.S. market was one negative factor, according to Honda, while the relatively healthy performance in its motorcycle division worked as a plus.

Honda lowered its global EV sales ratio projection for 2030 to 20% from its previous target of 30%. It also said it canceled the development of some EV models, because the EV market was changing.

The Trump administration, which has favored the oil and gas industry, has backpedaled on prior programs supporting the proliferation of EVs, dismantling programs that kicked in during the Biden administration, which had encouraged environmentally cleaner cars and trucks.

BYD's new electric SUV delivers over 440 miles range for just $26,000

Earlier this month, Lu Tian, head of sales for BYD’s Dynasty series, confirmed the Song Ultra EV was coming soon.

Lu previewed the new model for the first time in a blurred image posted on Weibo, calling it the Dynasty lineup’s first B-segment fully electric SUV.

While no other details were offered, the Song Ultra EV was included in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory approval catalog released last month.

The regulatory filing revealed measurements of 4,850 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm, making it slightly larger than the Song L DM-i PHEV at 4,780 mm in length, 1,898 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height.

While prices for the BYD Song Ultra EV are expected to start at around 220,000-260,000 yuan ($31,900-$37,600), Chinese media outlet Autohome claims it will be priced around 180,000 yuan ($26,000), citing “relevant channels.”

Neat, but not sure I like how they're promoting oil exports as a benefit.
