Re: Social Media & Big Tech news and discussions
I hate to say it but anyone that supports this fascism deserves to lose and lose big. Don't be surprise when said party that limits speech and freedom is utterly destroyed.

Re: Social Media & Big Tech news and discussions
It's simply not effective at forcing companies to actually regulate.

More on that AP:

It would be wise of you to stop abusing the term "fascism." This is simply bad policy.

TikTok uninstalls surge 150% after app’s US takeover
Article by Marisa Jones | Jan 27, 2026
The news: US users are deleting TikTok at a rapid rate following the app’s transfer to US ownership, with removals jumping nearly 150% in the five days after the deal, according to Sensor Tower data shared with CNBC. While the surge hasn’t led to a major loss of US users, the wave of uninstalls could be a sign of troubles to come for the new US TikTok venture.
– Users shared their reasons for uninstalling on social media, with many citing TikTok’s updated privacy policy, including language stating that TikTok may collect data like “racial or ethnic origin,” “citizenship or immigration status,” and “sexual orientation.”
– CNBC noted that the language does not appear to be new and can be found in an archived August 2024 version.
– Sensor Tower also pointed to new interest in competing apps: Social networking app UpScrolled saw US downloads grow more than tenfold compared with a week prior, while Rednote downloads grew 53% and Skylight Social grew 919% in the same period.

French Authorities Raid Paris Offices of Elon Musk’s X
By Jon Queally
February 3, 2026
Introduction:
Read more here: https://www.commondreams.org/news/elon ... d-france(Mother Jones) Law enforcement authorities in France on Tuesday executed a raid on the offices of the social media company X, owned by the world’s wealthiest person, Elon Musk, backed by allegations of unlawful “abuse of algorithms and fraudulent data extraction” by company executives.
The mid-morning operation by the nation’s federal cybercrime unit, Unité Nationale Cyber, also involves the EU police agency Europol as part of an investigation opened in January 2025 into whether the platform’s algorithm had been used to illegally interfere in French politics.DED...
According to Le Monde:
The statement by the Paris prosecutor’s office said, “At this stage, the conduct of this investigation is part of a constructive approach, with the aim of ultimately ensuring that the X platform complies with French laws, insofar as it operates on national territory.”
- French prosecutors also said they had summoned X owner Elon Musk for a voluntary interview in April as part of the investigation. “Summons for voluntary interviews on April 20, 2026, in Paris have been sent to Mr. Elon Musk and Ms. Linda Yaccarino, in their capacity as de facto and de jure managers of the X platform at the time of the events,” it said. Yaccarino resigned as CEO of X in July last year, after two years at the company’s helm.
The investigation was opened following two complaints in January 2025 and then broadened after additional reports criticized the AI chatbot Grok for its role in disseminating Holocaust denials and sexual deepfakes, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. One of the complaints came from Eric Bothorel, an MP from President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party, who complained of “reduced diversity of voices and options” and Musk’s “personal interventions” in the platform’s management since he took it over.
Don't mourn, organize.

Just say no to bans based on age for social media and id to use social media. Pure fascism.
