Smart Glasses Are Already Getting Ridiculously Light

Wearing smart glasses takes a toll on your face—on your nose, on your temples, and on your poor screen-addled eyes. Luckily, makers of smart glasses seem to have taken note of that unique bodily onus, and they’re basically racing to make the lightest pair of smart glasses they possibly can.

Take this recent pair from a company called Mojie, which is teasing smart glasses that weigh just 25g, and still have a screen inside. To put that weight into perspective, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses, which don’t have a display, weigh around 49g, are double the weight of this pair from a Chinese upstart. In fact, 25g is about the weight of a regular pair of glasses without any smarts at all. This announcement of Mojie’s smart glasses comes on the heels of Lenovo’s reveal that it would sell a pair of smart glasses that weigh 38g. For an even more stark comparison, it’s worth pointing out that the Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta’s full-color display smart glasses, weigh around 70g, meaning they won’t be winning the lightest pair of smart glasses accolade any time soon.

Even Realities Takes on Meta With Anti-Distraction Smart Glasses, Dual-Purpose Ring
The new G2 smart glasses forgo cameras and speakers, instead offering a laid-back, passive experience.

Even Realities, a wearable technology startup headed by former Apple engineer Will Wang, introduced two new devices this week: the Even G2 Display Smart Glasses and the Even R1 Smart Ring. Both wearables were reportedly built on the idea that technology should distract users less and integrate more smoothly with everyday routines.

Even G2 uses the startup's Even HAO 2.0 optical engine to work with micro-LED projectors and layered waveguides. This technology projects images that appear to blend naturally with the user's surroundings. Users see quick AI prompts in the foreground, with navigation or notes placed subtly behind them.

The G2 skips cameras and speakers entirely, so there is no recording or audio, unlike smart glasses like Ray-Ban Meta. The glasses weigh just 36 grams and have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. A full charge offers more than two days of battery life, and the case provides up to seven recharges. Software includes Conversate, a new tool that listens to conversations with consent and helps track topics, context, and follow-up points.

Barely-there AR glasses go big on going light

Intelligent electronics brand Vizo is currently presenting its new project on Kickstarter: the Z1 Pro AR glasses. Made of ultra-lightweight resin and tipping the scales at just 63 grams (2.2 oz), they're one of the lightest sets of AR glasses on the market.

Unlike most devices in this category, the Z1 Pros support SteamVR streaming, allowing users to experience immersive games. Typically, this level of immersion requires a bulky enclosed headset, so achieving it through lightweight AR glasses is quite an interesting innovation. Switching between 2D and 3D modes is instant, allowing users to enable 3D for compatible games and movies.

The glasses feature a 160-inch virtual display with 120Hz Full HD visuals and an industry-leading peak brightness of 6,000 nits (1,500 nits perceived to the eye) – almost twice as high as that of many comparable AR glasses. This basically means they can provide clear, vivid image both indoors and outdoors.

Apple Could Launch Smart Glasses Inspired by Tim Cook’s Own Specs
Plus three other styles, including round frames and a Wayfarer-like design.

Apple is reportedly testing AI-powered smart glasses in at least four frame styles, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported Sunday. The product is said to focus on everyday usability and fashion-first design rather than full AR overlays. In other words, think of it as more like Meta Ray-Ban than the Apple Vision Pro.

Gurman's sources say Apple is working on two rectangular styles: a Wayfarer-like design and one similar to Tim Cook's glasses. The other two styles are speculated to be oval or circular options. The company is said to be using premium acetate for the frames, with colors like black, ocean blue, and light brown in testing.

These glasses are rumored to feature an oval, vertically aligned camera module on the temple, surrounded by lights that indicate when the user is recording. Like all other Apple products, they're expected to rely on tight integration with the iPhone. Sources say Apple wants the glasses to have cameras, microphones, and speakers to give hands-free photos, short videos, voice calls, music playback, and context-aware assistance. Examples could include asking Siri about a landmark, translating a menu, or identifying objects in view.

Samsung’s First Smart Glasses Reportedly Just Leaked, Including Images & Specs

Images and specs for Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses have reportedly leaked, showing off what could be the South Korean tech giant’s answer to Ray-Ban Meta.

The images, which were obtained by Android Headlines, don’t appear to be leaked marketing images as such, but rather “based on real-life pictures of a testing unit of these smart glasses,” Android Headlines says—ostensibly done to obscure the leak’s source.

The report also included a brief spec sheet for the company’s first smart glasses, which, much like Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, don’t include a display of any kind.

XR glasses maker VITURE announced the launch of VITURE Beast, its third-gen flagship XR glasses that release today, priced at $549.

Targeting casual content consumption and productivity, the Beast offers up a 3DOF-tracked virtual screen estimated to be 174 inches when viewed at 4 meters, which connects via USB-C to PCs, phones and portable game consoles, like Steam Deck or ROG Ally.

Similar to Viture’s previously released Luma series, the Beast sports bird bath-style optics, however offers a 57-degree field-of-view (FOV) stereoscopic Sony displays rated at 1,250 nits brightness, making for the company’s brightest optics and widest FOV to date.
