In the link following my comments, Rachel Maddow posits an explanation for the seizure of Maduro and other acts of intimidation against Venezuela. I don't think Maddow ever uses the word "fascist," yet her conclusion pretty much lines up with the idea that Trump is a fascist.

Part of what was missing from Trump's presidency was aggression against foreign countries that characterized fascist countries like Nazi Germany. The action against Venezuela is a step toward filling in that missing piece of the puzzle.

So much is all connected:

1) The January 6 coup attempt and subsequent pardoning of rioters of that day.

2) The anger over suggesting that U.S. armed forces should not act on illegal orders.

3) The purging of the U.S. government and military of elements that may be more loyal to the Constitution than to Trump.

4) The deployment of National Guard in cities and states in the U.S.

5) The pressure against U.S. media institutions to suppress criticism of the Trump regime.

6) The weaponization of the U.S. Justice Department to indict enemies of Trump for purely political reasons.

7) The latest actions in Venezuela and threatened similar actions against Columbia, Mexico, Denmark (regarding Greenland) etc.

All of this is an abandonment of respect for democratic values and institutions and an embrace of the notion that power flows from the barrel of a gun (and from nowhere else). All of this is being enabled by spineless Republican politicians in Congress and by a Supreme Court that gives great deference to Trump's claims for presidential power. Flexing their muscle in Venezuela is just another way removing guardrails that might otherwise constrain the Trump presidency. It is a way of getting the country used to rule by a fascist dictator.

Don't mourn, organize.

Here is an article by Stephen Zunes that appeared in The Progressive that makes many of the same points I made earlier in this thread and that were made by Rachel Maddow in a video I linked:

https://progressive.org/latest/the-real ... -20260106/

It addresses the question of why did the U.S. under Trump invade Venezuela?
