Emily Blunt among Hollywood stars outraged over 'AI actor' Tilly Norwood
1 October 2025
An "AI actor" named Tilly Norwood has been causing a stir after its Dutch creators said the synthetic performer is in talks with talent agencies.
Norwood could be mistaken for a young, aspiring actress when one glances at its social media. The brunette poses for photos and showcases a fully AI-generated comedy sketch, where it is described as having "girl next door vibes."
"I may be AI, but I'm feeling very real emotions right now," Tilly's creators wrote on her page. "I am so excited for what's coming next!"
Hollywood is not rolling out the red carpet. Its powerful actors union has condemned the creation, along with A-list stars like Emily Blunt, Natasha Lyonne and Whoopi Goldberg.
Norwood "is not an actor, it's a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers," the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, or SAG-AFTRA, said in a statement.

"it has aggregated visual data and learned the statistical patterns of it! the outrage!"
(ok there will be less job opportunities, but that just means UBI time)
At the end of the day, acting is about pretending to be something you are not. While we may laud performers for their ability to do that, it is the end result of that that is most important at the end of the day.

Re: Synthetic Media & Generative AI News and Discussions
This is something people will generally adapt to, especially after the viral release of Sora 2. We'll be in a post-truth society and really, we're kind of already living in one. I can see a scenario where "what's real" can't be trusted by another person anymore especially on the internet, and one must verify by an AI able to unbiasedly curate vast amounts of information. Hopefully, without hallucinations, or "internal" system prompted ones....

She kinda did it to herself.
She railed extensively against AI slop when she was exploited by it last year, and a lot of Swifties joined the Anti-AI movement to defend her.
Turning around and using it is doubleplusungood for her because now she comes off as a hypocrite as well.
But at the end of the day, who cares? She might not have even been the one to sign off on it
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

Fake hurricane videos shared online including AI-generated sharks
Updated 1 minute ago
Many dramatic videos created with artificial intelligence are being shared online as Hurricane Melissa gets closer to Jamaica.
We have observed dozens of such videos on TikTok, which have racked up millions of views in total. A search for Hurricane Melissa on the platform leads users to many AI-generated or old clips from past storms. Some of the videos have watermarks that clarify they were created with AI-generators such as Open AI’s text-to-video model Sora.
Others have removed or blurred watermarks in an apparent attempt to mislead viewers, or feature fake reporters and a mix of short clips that appear like legitimate reports from local sources.
One video, viewed half a million times on TikTok, shows a woman on a balcony filming two sharks swimming in heavily flooded streets.
There’s a blurred sign visible on the bottom left of the clip, likely a watermark that’s been hidden. The uploader later added a label to the caption to indicate the video was made with AI.

Sony’s Aniplex, Bandai Namco and other Japanese publishers demand end to unauthorized training of OpenAI’s Sora 2 through CODA
https://automaton-media.com/en/news/son ... ough-coda/
I mean their demands regarding the output are reasonable, though the demands regarding training probably fall under fair use in the US imo. However, it's also worth noting that Japan has stricter copyright laws.

To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.
