The First Apple Intelligence Features Begin Rolling Out
This is just a taste of Apple's long-awaited AI play, which will culminate in early 2025.

Apple didn't dive head first into this new era of generative AI like Google, Microsoft, and others, but it's releasing new AI features all the same. After months of previews and vague timelines, Apple has dropped the first version of Apple Intelligence today, giving users the chance to reformat text, declutter notifications, and do more with the latest AI models.

Apple Intelligence is available on most newer devices in Apple's lineup. It's on Apple's computers via a macOS update, and it's in iOS 18.1 for the iPhone and iPad (including the new Mini). However, you need to be using an iPhone 16 or one of the iPhone 15 Pro models. Unlike most generative AI systems, Apple Intelligence defaults to local processing that requires specific hardware, resorting to the cloud for more advanced features using ChatGPT.

Apple is reportedly exploring humanoid robots

February 12, 2025

Apple is exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robotic form factors, according to a new scoop from longtime Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The intel comes on the heels of a research paper from the iPhone maker that explores human interactions with “non-anthropomorphic” robots — specifically a Pixar-style lamp.

While Apple’s research paper highlights elements that could inform an eventual consumer robot, the work primarily shines a light on progress from a company still mired in the early research stages of a complex field. Kuo qualifies the work as “early proof-of-concept,” adding that the Apple Car project was effectively abandoned in a similarly early stage. Citing “current progress and typical development cycles,” Kuo projects 2028 as an optimistic timeline for mass production.

If successful, this could position Apple as a notable player in the growing field of robotics, diversifying its product offerings beyond traditional electronics.

Apple finally steps up AI game, reportedly orders around $1B worth of Nvidia GPUs

March 25, 2025

The race for the biggest AI model and best AI implementation has a lot of contenders, with some of the biggest companies in the world heavily investing in AI architecture. Although being somewhat of a pioneer in this area with the introduction of Siri, artificial intelligence has come a long way since the introduction of ChatGPT, and Apple has some catching up to do.

You may be surprised to hear that Apple hasn’t been investing in AI as much as its contemporaries, but that has just changed. New reports show that Apple has placed “an estimated $1B order” for Nvidia’s GPU-accelerated data center technology.

According to a post on X from Wall St Engine, Apple has reportedly ordered around one billion dollars worth of NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems. These are Nvidia’s GPU racks designed for servers and data centers, with the best AI reasoning performance to date from Team Green.

The GB300 NVL72 rack is fitted with 72 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 36 NVIDIA Grace CPUs, offering 50x higher output for AI inference compared to the last-generation Hopper architecture.

The company has been boasting Apple Intelligence integration in its latest iPhone, iPad, and Mac models, which is labeled as “the start of a new era for Siri” – but it’s clear that there is much more growth ahead. We’ve recently noticed that many consumers aren’t drawn to AI, but without it, Apple risks falling behind its competition in the AI race.
