An ordinary guy on YouTube decided he wanted to try a simple experiment where he makes a version of Minecraft that runs much better and can render the landscape a lot further out.
Barely a year later, this project has become Cosmic Reach, a voxel game set in a world where, strangely enough, no humans or human buildings exist but flying robots called Interceptors will occasionally attack you. What all of this implies is currently anyone's guess, but in addition to having a world similar to Minecraft, there's an entirely new level based on the lunar surface. Back on "Earth", there are caves that can generate thousands of blocks underground, as well as basically zero height limit to anything you build, which I think means that a large group of online friends might be able to build a structure kilometers tall if given enough time.
The developer has an entire series on his channel (https://www.youtube.com/@finalforeach/videos) where he walks the viewer through the process he took of bringing his voxel game to life. A Discord for Cosmic Reach was created a few months ago and already has several hundred members. What I'm hoping is that this game will be able to succeed in most or all of the areas that Minecraft has found itself repeatedly failing in, which in recent years include not only poor optimization, but also a number of gameplay features and/or mobs that most players find pointless.

This could easily change though, Powers, and may only be the result of the game's current incomplete state. Time will tell, as updates seem to be coming out at least once a month

I'll take a look as well as I was interested in Minecraft back in the day, even though I wasn't good at it.

But I've seen similar projects that started well and then just stalled, so it all comes down to whether he can see it through. The potential is there, but it's too early to draw any big conclusions.TrueAnimationFan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 7:26 pm An ordinary guy on YouTube decided he wanted to try a simple experiment where he makes a version of Minecraft that runs much better and can render the landscape a lot further out.

Plus, when the developer shows the process, it always draws people in and gives the feeling that you are also a little bit into the topic. I've seen projects that look really cool at the start, and then just fizzle out because they don't have enough energy or ideas. So the main thing here is whether he can pull it off. There is potential, especially if he really fixes what's driving everyone crazy in Minecraft. Sometimes when I look at such things, I also read various analyses to better understand how it works. I even came across info like the JeetCity app where they explain the details and approach, and it helps to look a little wider. In short, there's no hype yet, but it's definitely worth following. This thread of mine was posted two years ago, and there's a ton more stuff that he's added to the game since then. As a matter of fact, Cosmic Reach is still getting updates every few weeks.
