A Trans Refugee's Court Case Against Hungary Just Improved Trans+ rights Across All of Europe
by Jamie Wareham
March 15, 2025

Introduction:
(QueerAf) A landmark case at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on Thursday significantly advanced Trans+ rights rights across Europe.

The case was about a trans man who had been granted asylum in Hungary based on coming from Iran, a country where Trans+ communities faced violence and persecution.

He was left in a legal paradox: be granted citizenship in the wrong gender, or not at all. On top of this, because Hungary banned legal gender recognition for citizens in 2020, accepting citizenship would lock him out of changing his legal gender in future. But he found a way to challenge this - using data protection legislation.

This week, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that under Articles 16 and 5(1)(d) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Hungarian authorities must correct “inaccurate” personal data concerning gender identity held in public registers "without undue delay". It also ruled that the accuracy of that data couldn't be based on whether people have had medical or surgical gender-affirming care.

Supreme Court to debate if elementary schools may skip parental notice for LGBTQ+ reading

Source: CNN Politics

Published 8:00 AM EDT, Sat April 19, 2025

CNN — For Billy Moges, the fight with a Washington, DC-area school district over the reading of LGBTQ+ books in elementary school is a matter of faith. “We have no hate for anyone,” said Moges, one of the Christian parents who sued Maryland’s largest school district over the policy in a case that will be heard at the Supreme Court. “We’re saying that we, as parents, do not want our children to be exposed to these ideas at this age because they’re not ready for it.”

But for the Montgomery County Public Schools and civil rights groups, giving way to Moges would lead to an administrative nightmare – requiring teachers to foresee and alert parents to any concept discussed in the classroom that might possibly conflict with their religious beliefs.

The Supreme Court will weigh those positions during arguments Tuesday in the most significant religious appeal the justices have confronted in years – a case that sweeps in the struggle over transgender rights, the ability of parents to influence school curriculum and questions about the role of faith in the public sphere. The parents are relying in part on a 1972 precedent in which the Supreme Court allowed Amish families to remove their children from school after the eighth grade, despite a Wisconsin law that required students to remain enrolled until they were 16.

The 6-3 conservative Supreme Court has sided with religious interests in every case it has considered in recent years – allowing a high school football coach to pray on the 50-yard line, permitting taxpayer money to be spent on religious schools and backing a Catholic foster care agency that refused to work with same-sex couples as potential parents.

*sigh*
The argument should shift to one that goes like this, " Why shouldn't men be able to dress up like woman and modify our own bodies?", Why shouldn't we have the reproductive freedom to have a a womb transplant once they're ready? Why should these things be limited to only biological females?"

These people think they can dictate ones choices in life? Free my ass.

I sincerely doubt people care all that much about womb transplants. Furthermore, your proposal fails to account for one of the most important parts of the issue- recognizing trans people as the gender they identify as.

Here are some more helpful points.

988 suicide prevention service for LGBTQ+ youth would be eliminated under leaked budget proposal

Source: CNN

The Trump administration is considering eliminating the 988 Suicide Prevention and Crisis Lifeline’s specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth as a way to cut back on funding for next year’s discretionary budget for mental health, according to an internal document reviewed by CNN.

The preliminary memo, dated April 10, previews the administration’s possible plans to slash discretionary federal health spending and rework health agencies as President Donald Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. consolidate many functions of the US Department of Health and Human Services into the Administration for a Healthy America, or AHA.

If the leaked budget draft is enacted, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ youth specialized services could be defunded beginning in October, according to the nonprofit The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ youth that has been a subcontractor to the specialized service since 2022, serving as one of seven call centers within the subnetwork that provides specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth.

In October 2020, Trump signed a bipartisan bill making 988 the universal telephone number to reach the national suicide prevention hotline.

CA judge requires parental notification for elementary school gender lesson

https://www.thecentersquare.com/califor ... a638a.html
Typically, students select the books to be read, and parents receive weekly notices of which books would be read next.

This time, there was no such notice.
I mean, it's certainly odd that there wasn't a notice for this book, in contrast to the routine notices issued for any other book. The lack of transparency is only going to fuel bullshit conspiracy theories about "grooming."
The fifth graders and kindergarteners were then instructed to participate in an “art activity,” in which teachers told the kindergarteners to “pick a color that represents you,” and then had the fifth-graders trace their respective buddies’ shadows on the ground with their choice of colored chalk.

The fifth-grader plaintiffs were “uncomfortable” in the buddy class assignment, which they felt was contrary to their personal beliefs, and “did not wish to affirm the book’s message to their buddies.”
"EWWW TOLERANCE!!!!  " Truly childish behavior from plaintiffs. Fine, if they want to opt out, they can, but they should be prepared to face the social repercussions. If you don't extend tolerance to others, don't expect others to extend it to you.
