On another note, perhaps the thing I hate most about the whole genAI debate is the fact that it has become a cheap excuse for people to behave like shit human beings to each other.

Sign ups are temporarily unavailable
We’re currently experiencing heavy traffic and have temporarily disabled sign ups. We’re working to get them back up shortly so check back soon.
I always press on "Not interested in this post" and try to avoid these. I would say it works since I almost never stop with one.firestar464 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 7:29 pm On another note, perhaps the thing I hate most about the whole genAI debate is the fact that it has become a cheap excuse for people to behave like shit human beings to each other.

I'm thinking Sora is likely a bigger reason why the pro subscription is around $200. Video generation is expensive, so in this way they can begin to make a profit as the technology improves and becomes cheaper.

It sure looks like OpenAI trained Sora on game content — and legal experts say that could be a problem

Getty Images and Shutterstock to Merge in $3.7 Billion Deal
Tue, January 7, 2025
Getty Images and Shutterstock will merge into one company valued at $3.7 billion in a deal that aims to take on competition from AI, the companies announced on Tuesday. The new premier visual content company will be called Getty Images Holdings, Inc. and, at close, Getty Images CEO Craig Peters will serve as CEO of the combined company.
The new company aims to offer a larger content library, expanded opportunities for its contributor community and a reinforced commitment to “the adoption of inclusive and representative content,” but the deal also aims to create a “stronger financial profile” and innovation for customers in “a fast‑evolving and highly competitive environment,” a nod to the growing AI threat on both of their businesses.
The launch of AI-driven programs like Canva have dramatically increased competition for Getty and Shutterstock, which both provide a bevy of stock photos that can increasingly be created — to the user’s specification — by AI.
The combined company will increase investment in tech innovation, including generative AI.

We're almost there.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

Paul McCartney: Don't let AI rip off artists
4 hours ago
Sir Paul McCartney has told the BBC proposed changes to copyright law could allow "rip off" technology that might make it impossible for musicians and artists to make a living.
The government is considering an overhaul of the law that would allow AI developers to use creators' content on the internet to help develop their models, unless the rights holders opt out.
In a rare interview for Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Sir Paul said "when we were kids in Liverpool, we found a job that we loved, but it also paid the bills", warning the proposals could remove the incentive for writers and artists and result in a "loss of creativity".
The government said it aimed to deliver legal certainty through a copyright regime that provided creators with "real control" and transparency.

Crossing the uncanny valley of conversational voice
February 27, 2025
Brendan Iribe, Ankit Kumar, and the Sesame team
How do we know when someone truly understands us? It is rarely just our words—it is in the subtleties of voice: the rising excitement, the thoughtful pause, the warm reassurance.
Voice is our most intimate medium as humans, carrying layers of meaning through countless variations in tone, pitch, rhythm, and emotion.
Today’s digital voice assistants lack essential qualities to make them truly useful. Without unlocking the full power of voice, they cannot hope to effectively collaborate with us. A personal assistant who speaks only in a neutral tone has difficulty finding a permanent place in our daily lives after the initial novelty wears off.
Over time this emotional flatness becomes more than just disappointing—it becomes exhausting.
At Sesame, our goal is to achieve “voice presence”—the magical quality that makes spoken interactions feel real, understood, and valued. We are creating conversational partners that do not just process requests; they engage in genuine dialogue that builds confidence and trust over time. In doing so, we hope to realize the untapped potential of voice as the ultimate interface for instruction and understanding.
