What tech or scientific advancement would make your life better if it occurred later this year or next? Something that you'd have thought was at least 20+ years in the future or further but someone made it happen next year!

Male womb transplants, we know. But you should probably look into adoption because that's a low priority and controversial thing at least 30+ years in the future.weatheriscool wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 4:02 am What tech or scientific advancement would make your life better if it occurred later this year or next? As for me, I'd think effective consumer non-invasive BCI "read" tech would be pretty transformative. Put on a headband or something and suddenly you can control all your tech with a thought. Type out sentences, turn off lights, change channels or scroll through streaming platforms, all with a thought. Consumer BCI is one of those society level transformations, it's going to be huge.

A cure for insomnia. Or at least, a way to drastically improve sleep.
I know there are many devices out there already, but they have mixed reviews, and the tech still seems in a rather nascent stage.
I'd love a non-invasive BCI that gently "guides" your brain through light, deep, and REM phases, to reliably ensure 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Well I would say two things that would make my life better: -
1. A cure for Epilepsy where I didn't need to have tablets twice a day to stop it.
2. A device where you could think of something and it would immediately 3D print it straight away from your imagination. That would definitely help my Online 3D Printing Business when I slowly get it up and running from November next year.

My second choice
Real and effective anti-aging pill or vaccine. Lets say a major break through happens with the project that made the rats younger and that was one of their members test it on themselves. Well, it proved successful and made him 20 years younger and stopped his aging process. come to later find out it adds 100 years to ones life span in humans.
This is sent to the fda for further sped up testing and advanced approval. A president Harris backs it and removes the red tape!(A trump would mean that this is illegal.). In 2035 one can get a dose of this for 10k! This dose will last you around 100 years and you can take a second one for 50% effectiveness or another 45-50 years once its effects wear off.

Neurotech company Synchron has been making massive strides over the past couple of years. It's just announced that a trial participant has used its brain-computer interface (BCI) to turn on the lights in his home, see who is at the door, and choose what to watch on the TV – hands-free and without even a voice command.
That's thanks to Synchron's interface translating his thoughts into commands relayed to Amazon's Alexa service. The virtual assistant is set up on his tablet and connected to his smart home devices. The trial participant, who is living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and can't use his hands, can simply think about navigating through options displayed on the tablet to engage them.
A 'Stentrode' embedded in a blood vessel on the surface of his brain houses electrodes that detect motor intent. The participant uses his thoughts to select which tiles to press on the interface and perform actions via Alexa. Watch him use the system in the video below.

I'd like to be able to control robots around the house and instruct them to do house work in the future. Maybe one day even have robots in different parts of the world that you could rent for a few hours to control and use vr to vacation and take part in other parts of the world.weatheriscool wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 2:44 pmSurgery-free Neuralink rival enables thought-controlled smart homeVakanai wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 2:45 pmMale womb transplants, we know. I actually saw this and it's pretty exciting and in the right direction I've been thinking of for several years now. That said I still wouldn't call it a "consumer" BCI - even if not technically surgery, it's still far from noninvasive, and it's still for the handicapped who can't use his hands so uncertain how or if it'd work on the physically capable as is. But it's definitely a step closer and shows that the underlying technology is basically here, it just needs refinement and more accessible and affordable design, basically becoming an over the counter wearable I think rather then needing a doctor visit.weatheriscool wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 2:44 pmSurgery-free Neuralink rival enables thought-controlled smart homeVakanai wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 2:45 pmMale womb transplants, we know. I know a noninvasive will never be as good as an invasive design, especially for when we get to the point of 'write' functions rather than just 'read' functions, but first we need affordability and mass adoption, and I just don't see that ever happening near-future with an invasive design. We need a practical headset or headband at most at the $1.5k price range (same as Apple Vision Pro) I think to get the ball rolling. Right now what we have in the noninvasive market is not at all practical and gimmicky as hell. We need an entry level device with actual use, and I'm sure we'll get it eventually - but there's no telling when.

Artificial Super Intelligence would be an obvious choice since from there you theoretically get everything else.
Aside from, I'd say FDVR or a Holodeck level VR system which allows you to explore any possible medium within the comfort of your own room. Having unlimited possibilities for education or exploration experiences would be an amazing mental boon for anyone's life.
