Thank you. I had no clue what was being discussed in the previous post because all it said was that "This tweet in unavailable." I have been getting a lot of those messages lately and no I am not interested in being a subscriber to X.

Authorities encountering record number of migrants at the border each day amid unprecedented surge

CNN

Federal authorities reported a seven-day average of more than 9,600 migrant encounters along the US southern border in December, according to a Homeland Security official, among the highest amounts ever recorded as the US wrestles with an unprecedented surge.

Authorities are apprehending record levels of migrants at the US southern border on a daily basis, stretching already overwhelmed resources. The seven-day average reported on November 28 was around 6,800 encounters.

Border apprehensions have been gradually increasing since the summer. Last month, border authorities apprehended about 192,000 migrants between ports of entry, a 2% increase compared with the 188,000 migrant apprehensions in October, US Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens previously told CNN.

But over recent days, more than 10,000 migrants have unlawfully crossed the US-Mexico border daily – numbers not seen since days before the lifting of a Covid-era restriction known as Title 42 that allowed authorities to turn back migrants at the border. What’s uniquely challenging about this moment is that multiple sectors – many of them remote – are overwhelmed so usual processes to try to decompress or to process migrants are more complicated and result in migrants waiting in droves to be taken into custody.

All undocumented immigrants in California will be eligible for health insurance as of Jan. 1

Source: Salon

Published December 29, 2023 7:10PM (EST)
On the brink of a new year, the state of California is making the historical decision to offer an expanded version of Medi-Cal – the state's own version of the federal Medicaid program – offering health insurance benefits to all undocumented immigrants, regardless of age.

The newest version of this program, which is an expansion of Gov. Gavin Newsom's 2019 package which originally offered benefits to young adults ages 19 through 25 and then bumped that to include adults aged 50 and older, will aid approximately 700,000 additional low income residents on top of the 14.6 million Californians already benefitting from the program, according to reporting by ABC News, and be put into effect as of January 1, 2024.

This builds off of then-Gov. Jerry Brown's earliest version of Medi-Cal signed into effect in 2015, which was offered to undocumented children. “In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage – regardless of income or immigration status,” Gov. Newsom’s office said in a statement to ABC News.

“Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger, and able to get the care they need when they need it.”

This is a pretty good and fair comparison (12 min 49 sec video) between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, showing and talking about how much their messages differ and how much does D.T. exaggerate the situation in U.S.:

Busloads of migrants being dropped at N.J. train stations to sidestep NYC order

Busloads of migrants being dropped at N.J. train stations to sidestep NYC order

By Rudy Miller | For lehighvalleylive.com

Busloads of migrants headed for New York City are stopping at New Jersey train stations to sidestep an executive order from New York City‘s mayor that attempts to control their arrivals, according to the mayor of Secaucus.

In the last month, 14,700 asylum seekers made their way across the U.S. southern border and wound up in New York City on buses, according to a statement issued Wednesday by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Buses are arriving at random locations throughout Midtown Manhattan at night and on weekends in what Adams described as a “humanitarian crisis” that’s overwhelming the city.

Adams issued an executive order requiring the bus companies to give the city at least 32 hours notice before dropping migrants and limiting drop-offs to between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. on weekdays so the city can adequately attend to the migrants’ safety and well-being.

Hundreds of migrants dropped off in New Jersey, bypassing New York City restrictions

Source: CNN
Transit points in New Jersey have been used by buses to evade new rules aimed at curbing the massive numbers of arrivals in New York City. This weekend, at least four buses stopped at the Secaucus Junction train station in New Jersey, according to a news release from Secaucus’ mayor.

“From what we understand after being dropped at the train station the migrants then took trains to New York City,” Michael Gonnelli said. “At this point in time it seems train tickets are being secured for the migrants and they have been making their way to their final destination.”

It appeared “bus operators have figured out a loophole in the system in order to ensure the migrants reach their final destination, which is New York City,” he said.

The arrivals in the New York area come as US-Mexico border authorities in December encountered more than 225,000 migrants, the highest monthly total recorded since 2000, according to preliminary Homeland Security statistics shared with CNN.

Trump allies behind January 6 also leading Biden impeachment, says watchdog

Source: the guardian

David Smith in Washingt Last modified on Fri 5 Jan 2024 07.26 EST

The attempted US coup of 6 January 2021, never ended, according to a watchdog report, since the same Donald Trump allies behind that insurrection are now leading a sham impeachment effort against Joe Biden.

The report, marking three years since a mob of Trump supporters ransacked the US Capitol in a bid to overturn his election defeat, was produced by the Congressional Integrity Project and obtained by the Guardian.

It argues that scores of Trump loyalists in the House of Representatives have continued to push the former president’s election lies and are ready to go further in a bid to put him back in the White House.

“In fact, the key players involved in Trump’s scheme to overturn the election in 2020 are the very same Republicans leading the bogus impeachment effort against President Biden,” it says.

These include Mike Johnson, the House speaker; Jim Jordan, the chair of the House judiciary committee; and James Comer, the chair of the House oversight committee, all of whom continue to push Trump’s debunked conspiracy theories and wage a crusade to impeach Biden.........................................
