Gunmen storm Mexican resort, kill 7, including child
Armed men on Saturday killed a child and six others after storming a resort in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, authorities said, in a region increasingly plagued by drug cartel violence.

Footage widely shared on social media showed the aftermath of the attack in a palm-studded resort in the small town of Cortazar, about 65 km (40 miles) south of the Guanajuato city.

It was not clear who was behind the shooting that killed the seven-year-old, three men and three women, Cortazar's local security department said. One person was seriously injured in the La Palma resort.

But in recent years rival drug cartels have been waging brutal battles to control territory and trafficking routes through the state.

Video taken soon after the attack showed shocked adults and children walking past piles of dead bodies near a swimming pool.

2 dead, 4 injured in shooting at park in Louisville, Kentucky
Source: ABC News

Two people were killed and other four were injured in a shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday night. Louisville Metro Police said they received a call at about 9 p.m. reporting multiple people had been shot at Chickasaw Park.

Two people were dead when police arrived at the scene, Deputy Chief Paul L. Humphrey said. Another four people were transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where one was in critical condition, Humphrey said. The shooting comes days after a gunman opened fire at Old National Bank in Louisville, killing four people.

Mayor Craig Greenberg said on Saturday that "this is not who we are."

He said that “the love and support and strength that we've seen all week long throughout the city continues to bring us together and move us towards a safer city, a stronger city and a healthier city."

Drive-by shooting wounds 3, kills 12-year-old bystander
Source: Associated Press/Dave Collins
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Bullets sprayed out from a speeding car in Connecticut’s capital, killing an innocent 12-year-old bystander and wounding three other people who have had rap sheets that include gun crimes, authorities said Friday.

The suspects in the drive-by shooting appeared to target three males who were standing on a sidewalk on a residential street not far from downtown Hartford shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday, city police said.

Secret Pierce, a seventh grader at Milner Middle School, became Hartford’s seventh homicide victim of the year. She was sitting in a parked car when she was shot in the head, police said. She died Friday morning. The three other victims, males ages 16, 18 and 23, were expected to survive.

“This is a painful day in our community,” Mayor Luke Bronin said at a morning news conference outside police headquarters. “I don’t have the words. I want to say to Secret’s mom and loved ones that we all are so deeply sorry. That we are with them today in grief, in prayer and with love. ... A tragedy like this ripples outward in a community and affects so many.”

Man shot dead at gas station after mistakenly getting in wrong car. [View all]
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The alleged killer of a man who was fatally shot after getting into the wrong car at a local gas station just bonded out of jail.

That’s a date Dunnaville’s mother will never forget.

Channel 2 Action News calls her ‘T.C.’ and she did not show her face for safety reasons.

“I have not been able to sleep. I have not,” she said.

South Fulton Police said her 26-year-old son was shot and killed at the Shell Gas Station on Old National Highway after accidentally walking up to and getting inside the wrong car.

Police arrested Dericole Daniels and charged him with Misdeamor Voluntary Manslaughter. On Monday, he was released on a $150,000 bond.

Police: 5 people killed in shooting at home north of Houston
Source: Associated Press/Paul J. Weber
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas man went next door with a rifle and began shooting his neighbors, killing an 8-year-old and four others inside the house, after the family asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard because they were trying to sleep, authorities said Saturday.

San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said authorities were still searching for the 39-year-old suspect following the overnight shooting in the town of Cleveland, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Houston. He said the suspect, whom he did not identify, used an AR-style rifle in the shooting.

Capers said there were 10 people in the house and that no one else was injured. He said two of the victims, all believed to be from Honduras, were found laying over two children inside.

“The Honduran ladies that were laying over these children were doing it in such an effort as to protect the child,” Capers said.

Seven people found dead at Oklahoma home
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/se ... -rcna82341
The bodies of seven people were found Monday inside an Oklahoma home, authorities said.

The home is in Henryetta, roughly 50 miles south of Tulsa, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said.

One of the bodies appeared to be Jesse McFadden, 39, Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice told reporters at the scene.

Rice said the medical examiner's office would confirm the identity of McFadden and the others.

A missing person advisory listing McFadden and two teenage girls was circulated earlier Monday by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Rice said he believed authorities found all those who had been reported missing. He declined to say how many of the victims were juveniles, how they died or how long they had been at the home.

He said he had "no idea" what led to the deaths but said it was "a tragic day in Okmulgee County."

Sex offender fatally shot 6, then killed self, official says

By SEAN MURPHY
May 3, 2023

An Oklahoma sex offender who was released from prison early shot his wife, her three children and their two friends in the head and then killed himself, authorities confirmed Wednesday as concerns grew about why he was free as his trial on new sex charges loomed.

Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice said that the victims had each been shot in the head one to three times with a 9 mm pistol when they were found Monday near a creek and in a heavily wooded area in rural Oklahoma.

The bodies apparently had been moved there from where they were originally killed, the scene “staged” before Jesse McFadden, a 39-year-old convicted sex offender, killed himself, Prentice said in the first major update on the case.

The discovery of the bodies near McFadden’s home in Henryetta, a town of about 6,000 about 90 miles (145 kilometers) east of Oklahoma City, came on the very day that he was to stand trial on charges that he solicited nude images from another teen while he was imprisoned for rape.

Columbus, OH 3 dead, several others injured as police investigate 4 shooting scenes
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Two people have died and numerous others were injured in four separate shootings spanning four locations across Columbus early Saturday morning.

Several victims remained in critical condition at a local hospital later Saturday morning, Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said.

Police received their first reports of gunfire at about 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of High Street. After officers arrived at that scene, "more shots were fired a short distance away from the original location," according to a statement from Columbus police.

That statement said officers responded to that second scene and returned fire. Multiple shooting victims between those two scenes were found, although the police statement did not specify who shot whom.

Bryant said her team didn't know if any of the shootings were connected to each other, but she did opine about the prevalence of guns on Columbus streets.

"We need to figure out how do we get control of this gun situation?" she asked. "Why is everybody walking around with a weapon?"

Allen outlet shooting suspect identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia

Source: CBS News TEXAS
ALLEN (CBSNewsTexas.com) — The gunman who carried out the deadly shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets Saturday afternoon has been identified as Mauricio Garcia, multiple sources told CBS News Texas. Garcia, 33, had been living at a motel and did not have any felonies, J.D. Miles reported. He was reportedly working as a security guard.

Miles added that Garcia's younger brother, Christian—who has a lengthy criminal record—has been inaccurately accused of being the gunman. President Biden has since responded to the shooting, even stating that Garcia used an AR-15 style assault weapon to carry out the massacre.

According to the Mass Shooting Tracker, Allen marked the 242nd mass shooting in the United States this year. Eight victims were killed and seven remain hospitalized. Their ages range from 5 to 51 years old.

Garcia's parents' home in Dallas was searched overnight, Miles reported. It is unclear

Neighbor shoots 14-year-old as kids play hide and seek outside, Louisiana cops say
https://www.sunherald.com/news/nation-w ... 97271.html
A 14-year-old was shot in the head as she played hide and seek, Louisiana deputies say.

Now a neighbor is facing multiple charges. David V. Doyle, 58, was arrested Sunday, May 7, after the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said he opened fire on a group of kids playing on his property and “unknowingly hit the girl.”

Deputies were called about a shooting at a home in Starks early that morning, authorities wrote in a news release. They arrived to find a teen who was shot in the back of the head.

Several kids were playing in the area and used a neighbor’s property to hide, according to the sheriff’s office. The property owner, identified as Doyle, told deputies he went inside and grabbed his gun after he saw shadows outside his home, the release said. Doyle said when he went back outside, he saw several people running from his property and opened fire.

South Jersey cop gave man no commands before shooting him dead, state says in charging him

Jim Walsh, Cherry Hill Courier-Post
Wed, May 24, 2023 at 7:57 PM EDT·3 min read
TRENTON — A Mantua police officer is charged with manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of a civilian in September 2021.

A state grand jury indicted the officer, Salvatore Oldrati, on a charge of manslaughter, the state Attorney General’s Office said.

Oldrati shot Charles Sharp III, a 49-year-old Mantua resident, after responding to a late-night 911 call, the agency said.

“Mr. Sharp was shot multiple times outside his own home by one of the very officers he had called upon for help,” Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in announcing the charge on Wednesday.
