You remind me of an old friend of mine
Ah!... old memories... when things were completely different... the Roman invasion of Britain...

I am a bit confused then, if you knew the right word, attack, why you were using the wrong word, siege, when talking to 7th graders?
Please move on. This is diverting from the main topic of this thread.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

And yes, this is getting boring, but until someone decides to do something... besides the usual killing...
I see
...and you keep expecting people to read your mind. Not to mention failing to realize that I understood a difference between "attack" and "siege" and therefore had no need to offer a dictionary definition.
As part of playing the "game" of debating, I also like to call people's bluff and actually provide a definition when a question comes up. If you don't like having dictionary definitions thrown at you, then stop asking rhetorical questions as to "what does ______(fill in the blank) mean?"
For one who earlier insisted on the desirability of a "negotiated solution" I would think that you would understand and appreciate that point.
Honestly, you are such contrarian. You remind me of an old friend of mine who would argue one position from the Right, and then suddenly shift the position of his argument to rhetorically question or attack me from the Left. A useful tool for fostering critical thinking, but it can result in frustration in figuring out from where you are coming. A pacifist, a partisan of Russia, one of Putin's lap dogs, etc.
that, clearly.

Extract:
(The Drive) The attack reportedly used BM-21 'Grad' rockets, the infernally inaccurate system descended from the Soviet Katyusha rockets used to saturate broad areas with artillery fire. With no precision to speak of, their only purposes in a city are widespread destruction and terror...

This isn’t the first attack in recent days either, with two people reportedly killed in a similar strike on December 23, as well. While Ukrainian troops retook the strategic city in early November, it remains well within the range of Russian artillery from across the Dnieper River...

Some camouflage netting may well have saved a Ukrainian T-72 from a Russian loitering munition near the frontline. Footage shows the remains of a Russian Lancet loitering munition snared in the covering above a Ukrainian tank...

The Lancet has proven a real threat to Ukrainian troops, especially to those spending too much time in the open or in one location along or near the front lines.

We also have what appears to be a destroyed Ukrainian AHS Krab 155mm self-propelled howitzer. These Polish NATO-caliber guns have been a preferred artillery system of Ukrainian crews since their arrival earlier this year, but this one has definitely seen better days.

real emotions and sensations.
Not the best tools for a serious analysis.
This is not an analysis tool, but a way to do a "clean" analysis, not a "bunker" or "greenhouse" analysis.
By the way what methods do you use for "serious analysis"

No problem, my offer has no cut-off date.
By the way, if you are afraid, I can suggest that you come to the safest place in Ukraine: the largest ski resort in Eastern Europe, Bukovel.

This offer is valid for everyone )))

The Brutal Alternate World in Which the U.S. Abandoned Ukraine

Image
Ukrainian resistance and American support prevented a wide range of horrors.
By Anne Applebaum

....
....

Russian soldiers, strengthened by their stunning victory, would already be on the borders of Poland, setting up new command posts, digging new trenches. NATO would be in chaos; the entire alliance would be forced to spend billions to prepare for the inevitable invasion of Warsaw, Vilnius, or Berlin. Millions of Ukrainian refugees would be living in camps all across Europe, with no prospect of ever returning home; the tide of sympathy that originally greeted them would have ebbed long ago; the money would be running out, the backlash under way. The Moldovan economy would have collapsed entirely; a pro-Russian government in Moldova would perhaps already be planning to incorporate that country into the emerging Russian-Belarusian-Ukrainian federation that one Russian propagandist hailed, too early, on February 26.
Recommended Reading

This disaster would not have been confined to Europe. On the other side of the world, Chinese plans to invade Taiwan would be well under way, because Beijing would assume that an America unwilling to defend a European ally, and now totally bogged down in a long-term battle against an emboldened Russia, would never go out of its way to help an island in the Pacific. The Iranian mullahs, equally cheered by Russia’s success and Ukraine’s defeat, would have boldly announced that they had finally acquired nuclear weapons. From Venezuela to Zimbabwe to Myanmar, dictatorships around the world would have tightened their regimes and stepped up the persecution of their opponents, now certain that the old rules—the conventions on human rights and genocide, the laws of war, the taboo against changing borders by force—no longer applied. From Washington to London, from Tokyo to Canberra, the democratic world would be grimly facing up to its obsolescence.

No idea what you mean by "clean".

Well, certainly not what Anne Applebaum has done.
Starting by reading History would be a good point. (US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, but not Iran; no yet anyway. Why Russia was going to invade Poland?) Looking at what countries, politicians and generals have been doing... We (Western Democracies), love dictators, for example: "He is our son of a bitch" Roosvelt. We love "our" dictators (like Saddam Hussein, did you know that American companies were providing him with the "ingredients" for chemicals weapons?) and we have been loving them for a long time.
Checking if there is any truth in the news/information provided would be a good one too. (Like G. W. Bush pinning Al Qaeda to his (US) old friend Saddam).
Some people think or say, that his country is different, maybe so... but politicians are the same; and History too.
Anyway, I am sure Caltrek can explain to you the scientific method...

Hopefully... you don't have my personal email.

Democracy is at a crisis point. A combination of factors are at play, many of which have already been at least touched upon in this thread. By way of (at least a partial) summary:
  • The collapse of the Soviet Union sparked resentment among many Russians of their sudden loss of power and stature. This was felt especially deeply amongst KGB types such as Putin.
  • An apparent miscalculation by the Kremlin as to the ability and willingness of the Ukrainian armed forces to resist an invasion.
  • Internal rot within democracies caused by the huge inequality of incomes and a backlash against social progress made. Social progress being the recognition of the rights of the LGBT+ community, the rights of people of color, women, etc. Collectively, quite threatening to the tradition oriented White heterosexual men in Western society.
  • The invasion of Iraq after the events of 9/11, which set a very bad example for Putin, China, Iran, etc. to follow.
  • The actual election of Donald Trump, which signaled to Putin that the U.S. could continue to be greatly divided on the idea of resisting an invasion of the Ukraine by Russia. While Trump's subsequent defeat may have been seen as a setback, it was taken as a sign of weak resolve regarding the protection of one person one vote democracy, and a greater tolerance and even support of Russian adventurism.
  • As a country newly experiencing the benefits of democracy, Ukrainians seem to be deeply committed to protecting recent perceived gains. Moreover, they are generally fearful of a policy of genocidal extermination issuing forth from the Kremlin. In both regards, I cannot say that I blame them.
  • Russian willingness to endure pain and deprivation in a protracted conflict. This may have its limits, which in turn may result in a negotiated settlement.
Off the top of my head, I think that about covers it, although I may have missed important elements. This is a work in progress, subject to debate and further discussion.
Don't mourn, organize.
