Dubai to open "Museum of the Future" in 2017

Until relatively recently in its history, Dubai was little more than an undeveloped port on the edge of a huge desert. The last few decades have seen massive expansion and development in the region, with mega-projects including the world's tallest building, the largest shopping mall and a series of artificial islands off the coast.

The city's next major attraction may arrive in 2017 in the form of a museum devoted to showcasing the latest technological breakthroughs. Known as the "Museum of the Future", it will feature new designs, prototypes and hands-on experiences to create real examples of change, instead of just displaying static exhibits or publishing reports. Aiming to inspire a new generation of innovators, its motto will be "see the future, create the future."

A spokesperson is quoted in The National, a government-owned newspaper, as follows: “His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, our President, has declared 2015 to be the year of innovation in the UAE. Today, we show how serious and committed we are to that mission by turning the UAE into a major international destination for innovators. The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it.”
