Interesting, this didn't seem to get a lot of attention.

Hollywood studios take aim at 'ultra-realistic' AI video tool
13 February 2026
Major US studios have demanded that a powerful new AI video tool, launched by TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance, must "immediately cease" infringing copyright with its clips based on existing films and shows.
Many of the clips are based on real actors, TV shows and films, and the Motion Picture Association told the BBC: "In a single day, the Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorised use of US copyrighted works on a massive scale."
The MPA represents the major US studios - Netflix, Paramount Pictures, Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros Discovery.
According to ByteDance, the product has already suspended the ability for people to upload images of real people, and it respects intellectual property rights and copyright protections, and takes any potential infringement seriously.
The content referenced was created as part of a limited pre-launch testing phase, it said.

I'm surprised they actually complied, given that they're located in the PRC

Like the potential for silly shit, but it's a little dystopian that AIs somehow be living more than us and even less authentically at the same time.

To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

AI-generated Iran war videos surge as creators use new tech to cash in
7 March 2026
An unprecedented wave of AI-generated misinformation about the US-Israel war with Iran is being monetised by online creators with growing access to generative AI technology, experts have told BBC Verify.
Our analysis has found numerous examples of AI-generated videos and fabricated satellite imagery being used to make false and misleading claims about the conflict which have collectively amassed hundreds of millions of views online.
"The scale is truly alarming and this war has made it impossible to ignore now," says Timothy Graham, a digital media expert at the Queensland University of Technology.
"What used to require professional video production can now be done in minutes with AI tools. The barrier to creating convincing synthetic conflict footage has essentially collapsed," he says.
The US and Israel began launching strikes on Iran on 28 February. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks on Israel, as well as multiple Gulf nations and US military assets in the region.

‘This Should Be Illegal’: Senate GOP Uses AI Deepfake to Attack Talarico
By Stephen Prager

Introduction:
Read more here: https://www.commondreams.org/news/gop- ... deepfake(Common Dreams) In the latest example of Republicans using artificially generated deepfakes to attack their opponents, the Senate GOP’s official social media account has posted an attack ad depicting a synthetic version of Texas Democrat James Talarico, a state representative and US Senate candidate.
The video, posted on Wednesday to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) page on X, portrays a frighteningly realistic approximation of Talarico’s (D-50) appearance and voice.
The state representative, who won the Democratic nomination for Texas’ US Senate seat in a primary earlier this month, is depicted reading an array of old social media posts that the NRSC described as “extreme statements praising transgenderism, twisting Christian beliefs, and advocating for open borders.”
The posts were all real. Talarico did indeed state, following a spate of mass shootings against minorities in 2021, that “radicalized white men are the greatest domestic terrorist threat in our country.” He also did say that his office had added personal pronouns to official business cards out of respect for transgender Texans, that he believed God was “nonbinary,” and that he was “the only teenage boy at Planned Parenthood’s March for Women’s Lives in 2004.”
However, all of the posts are at least several years—if not more than a decade—old. The video also depicts its AI simulacrum of Talarico smiling and reminiscing fondly about the posts, which he never actually did.
Don't mourn, organize.
