Senior Israeli official says there will be "no ceasefire" for Gaza amid hostage talks
From CNN’s Matthew Chance and Florence Davey-Attlee
A senior Israeli official tells CNN there will be “no ceasefire” in Gaza amid US and Qatari efforts to free more than 200 hostages held there by Hamas.

The official was “not aware” of US calls for a delay to the Gaza ground operation and said both Israel and the US want all the hostages released “as quickly as possible,” they told CNN's Matthew Chance.

But, the official added, “humanitarian efforts cannot be allowed to impact the mission to dismantle Hamas,” they added.

Israel agreed to a US request to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, “although that was not popular in Israel,” the official said.

Israel hits Gaza with one of deadliest bombings so far in war against Hamas

Source: The Guardian

The blockaded Gaza Strip has been hit by one of the deadliest nights of Israeli bombing so far in the current war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas, as reports suggested that talks to secure the release of another 50 hostages were under way.

At least 400 Palestinians were killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, and 70 were killed overnight on Sunday in bombardments of the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp and streets close to two hospitals in Gaza City.

Entire residential blocks across the strip have now been levelled, including in areas where Palestinians had been told by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) to seek refuge. Approximately half the strip’s housing stock, and much of the coastal exclave, is now covered in grey rubble dust.

On Monday, Israeli outlets reported that the US and Qatar were trying to broker a deal in which 50 people held by Hamas and other groups in Gaza of foreign or dual nationality would be released. On Sunday it emerged the US had pressed Israel to delay its expected ground assault on Gaza to allow time for the release of more hostages believed to be held in the exclave, and the delivery of more aid to the besieged territory.

Israel says it has refused visa to UN official to 'teach them a lesson'

Wed 25 Oct 2023 10.59 BST

Israel says it has refused a visa to UN humanitarian affairs chief Martin Griffiths as a result of comments at the UN by secretary-general António Guterres.

Israeli media reports that Israel’s ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan said on army radio:
Due to his remarks we will refuse to issue visas to UN representatives. We have already refused a visa for under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs Martin Griffiths. The time has come to teach them a lesson.
Israel has called on UN secretary general Guterres to resign after he said that the“appalling attacks” by Hamas against Israel on 7 October cannot justify the “collective punishment of the Palestinian people”, and spoke of “the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing in Gaza.”

Guterres had said “Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring and kidnapping of civilians – or the launching of rockets against civilian targets. All hostages must be treated humanely and released immediately and without conditions.”

Netanyahu Openly Calls for Genocide Citing the Bible: "Go, attack the Amalekites..."
OCTOBER 29, 2023

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drew on ancient scriptural references on Sunday, evoking the biblical nation of 'Amalek' to explain Israel's position in the ongoing conflict with Hamas, which has resulted in significant civilian casualties.

Amid the escalating conflict, Netanyahu turned to ancient scripture to elucidate Israel's stance. He quoted from First Samuel 15:3, saying, "You must remember what Amalek has done to you, says our Holy Bible. 'Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them.

Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys'" The invocation of this biblical passage serves not only as a historical reference but also as a genocidal lens through which the Prime Minister views the current conflict.
