One thing I have noticed about my recent changes in life-style practices is the effect on my weight. Before those changes, I was considered overweight but not obese. I increased my level of exercise and also converted completely to a whole-foods/plant-based diet. This initiated a process of slowly losing weight which resulted in a significant weight loss over time. Yet, I was constantly snacking on whole-foods/plant-based foods. My problem, if it can be considered a problem, was eating enough food. So, I didn't have to exercise any will power in restricting my food intake. I merely had to be highly selective in what foods I did eat.(The Cygnet) Having lived abroad and in my birthplace of America, I've noticed that people are much heavier here than elsewhere. And obesity is certainly associated with a number of health problems
As pointed out in the cited Twitter feed, so much food on our shelves here in the United States is not beneficial. I would note that it is either highly processed or meat based. Dieticians are reaching the conclusion that these foods are highly detrimental to our health, and yet we continue eating them. In this regard, we compare unfavorably with so many other countries on the globe. Another manifestation of free-dumb combined with ignorance and force of habit. The ignorance is carefully cultivated by the food industry, which sews confusion and mis-direction in order to encourage the consumption of such junk food.
Such dietary considerations are not the only source of the problem. Certainly, the inefficiencies of our health care system are another major factor, but that is another story.
