If this keeps up, I'm starting to think the United States and its democratic allies will propose a version of the League of Democracies that will exclude Russia, China and other anti-democratic regimes. Since United Nations is headquartered in New York City, the United States will be the one to dissolve it with its allies begrudgingly agreeing to it on the condition a new intergovernmental organization will be created to replace it.

Not sure if the fighter jet is Ukrainian or Russian but it looks like it was damaged by anti-aircraft armaments and was trying to release unarmed missiles before crashing somewhere. (At least, that's what many people are saying in the comments).

Situation in Ukraine above.
Some US intelligence believes this is is just the warm-up for the main invasion and that will likely begin within the next 48 hours.

That's what I've been figuring as well. This seems to be a shock and awe operation similar to what we did in Iraq in '91 and '03, where we bomb the military targets relentlessly before moving in on the ground. Russia ought to be able to blitz to Kyiv pretty handily.

McConnell: 'Ratchet the sanctions all the way up'

"Ratchet the sanctions all the way up. Don't hold any back," McConnell said while taking questions after roundtable briefings on the opioid and substance abuse epidemic.
"Every single available tough sanction should be employed and should be employed now," he added.
McConnell's remarks come after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a military operation in Ukraine early in the morning on Thursday.
