Warner Bros has unveiled the first trailer for its live-action Minecraft movie leaving gaming fans extremely disappointed.
From Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess, the forthcoming film, titled A Minecraft Movie, features a star-studded cast of Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Wednesday star Emma Myers and Jennifer Coolidge.
The movie is an adaptation of Mojang Studios’ best-selling video game, which was first released in 2009, and has sold over 300 million copies with nearly 140 million monthly active players.
A Minecraft Movie welcomes viewers to a world “where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival!” an official description reads.
“Four misfits – Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks) – find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.”
As someone who used to play Minecraft on and off, a few years ago. Even this, should be scrapped and taken back to the drawing board. An animated film would look better or can't they remember Sonic?

Live-Action Hybrid ‘Rugrats’ Movie In Works From Paramount And ‘Pitch Perfect’ Director Jason Moore
Geez, didn't know they would spring the Rugrats film in this day and age especially a Live-Action/Hybrid (CGI) one.

EXCLUSIVE: Everyone’s favorite adventurous toddlers are getting the big-screen treatment unlike any film or show in the franchise before, with sources telling Deadline that Rugrats, the classic Nickelodeon cartoon from the 1990s, is getting a live-action/CGI feature adaptation with Jason Moore on board to direct. Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day co-wrote the script with Streeter Seidell.
Created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain, the Nickelodeon series premiered in 1991 and became one of the network’s most popular series. It followed a group of toddlers — Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil — and their day-to-day lives, usually involving life experiences that become much greater adventures for the foursome.
The show would get rebooted in 1996 following three seasons and would go on to last through the 2000s. Its popularity led to three animated movies and a number of accolades, and has gained new life as a new generation discovers old episodes on streaming.
Karen Rosenfelt is producing the feature film, as are Klasky and Csupó.
Moore, the Tony-nominated director and producer of film, television and theater, seems like the ideal fit to bring these characters to life. His feature directorial debut, Pitch Perfect starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow, was a critical and commercial success; he served as executive producer on both of the sequels. Moore also directed 2015’s Universal movie Sisters, starring Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph and written by Paula Pell.

Joker sequel on course for catastrophic $200m loss – reports
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2024/o ... ss-reportsTue 15 Oct 2024 13.12 BST
Joker: Folie à Deux is on course for a catastrophic financial loss of up to $200m (£153m) as its dismal box office run continues amid a stream of critical brickbats and poor audience ratings.
According to a report in Variety, industry analysts say Joker: Folie à Deux is projected to earn a total of $65m at the North American box office, and around $215m elsewhere for a total of $280m – well below the estimated $300m the film cost to produce and promote. With revenue splits with cinemas factored in, Variety say that in fact the film needs to earn around $450m to break even, though producing studio Warner Bros say that the break-even figure is in fact $375m. In an effort to claw back revenue the film is headed for an early debut on home entertainment and streaming platforms on 29 October. Meanwhile the Rotten Tomatoes rating website has recorded an audience score of 32%.
As a result the estimate is the film could lose its producers between $125m and $200m. However a statement from Warner Bros disputed the accuracy of the figures, saying: “Any estimates suggested by anonymous ‘insiders’ or ‘rival executives’ are grossly wrong and continues a trend where rumour is reported as fact.”
All this is in stark contrast to the reception given the first Joker film. With the same star, Joaquin Phoenix, and director Todd Phillips, Joker won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice film festival on its premiere in 2019 as well as winning the best actor Oscar for Phoenix; it was also a huge commercial success, earning $1.08bn at the global box office, including £335m in North America.
Blame for Folie à Deux’s failure has been apportioned to a number of factors. The surprise success of the first film put Phillips, its director and co-writer, in a powerful position, allowing him to reportedly ignore or bypass the demands made by DC Studios, custodian of the Batman/Joker intellectual property. In retrospect, his decision to make Folie à Deux into a musical co-starring Lady Gaga appears to have alienated the comic book fanbase, a vital section of the audience if a film is to be a major hit.

Re: The Movies Thread
I just watched Alien: Romulus. Here are my thoughts on it. I'll try to avoid spoilers here.
It's certainly one of the better films in the series, probably the best since Aliens (1986). It takes place a few years before that film.
The first half is really gripping, and builds an immersive setting, as we're introduced to some colonists on a dark and dystopian mining colony. The visual and sound designs are both really impressive, nicely capturing the "look and feel" of the earlier films, while also being more modern. Some gorgeous views of planetary rings, the colony, and space stations/equipment.
The characters aren't as memorable as those in Alien or Aliens, but they work well together and I thought Rain/Andy had an interesting relationship. There's a surprising cameo – which has been quite controversial – but I think it works well.
However, the second half does seem to rely a little too much on references from the earlier movies. And while there's a nice balance between practical effects and CGI, it gets a little OTT for my liking, especially towards the end.
But overall, I enjoyed it (8 out of 10 from me). If you're a fan of the franchise, or sci-fi in general, you should definitely see it.
