Worth noting that while MRSA infections are rare, it would be even harder (and impractical) to murder someone with MRSA or otherwise fake the autopsy results.

Ian Gelder, who starred as Kevan Lannister in the fantasy drama series Game Of Thrones has died aged 74, five months after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer.

The British actor’s decades-long career has also included roles as Mr Dekker in Torchwood: Children Of Earth, as well as guest roles as Charles, the Librarian scholar in His Dark Materials, and Zellin in Doctor Who.

“It is with huge huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder,” actor Ben Daniels said on Instagram.

“I’d stopped all work to be his carer but neither of us had any idea that it would all be so fast. He was my absolute rock and we’d been partners for more than 30 years.”

“If we weren’t together we spoke to each other everyday. He was the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being,” his post added.

The astronaut who captured the famous first colour photo of the Earth from space has died in a plane crash in the US.

William Anders, 90, was the only person aboard the small aircraft he was piloting when it plummeted off the coast of Jones Island, near Washington state, on Friday.

His son, Greg Anders, confirmed the death, adding the family is "devastated".

"He was a great pilot and we will miss him terribly," he added.

Mr Anders circled the moon with Apollo 8 in December 1968, in the first human spaceflight to leave Earth's orbit.

Michael Mosley – latest: Wife says TV doctor ‘nearly made it’ after body found metres from safety on Symi
19 minutes ago

Dr Michael Mosley’s body has been found just metres from saftey in Symi, Greece, after an extensive search for the TV doctor entered its fifth day.

The body was discovered next to an umbrella beneath a fence that runs around the bar on Agia Marina beach on the Greek island, according to officials.

Dr Mosley, 67, was last seen leaving Saint Nikolas beach at 1.30pm when he is believed to have been heading off on the coastal path back to nearby Pedi.

CCTV footage, not shared with the media, from a house at the edge of the marina of Pedi showed Dr Mosley entering a treacherous mountainous path at about 2pm on Wednesday.

The search effort has been widespread and has included firefighters, dogs, helicopters, drones, local people and officers from Symi and outside the island.

Iconic French singer Françoise Hardy dies aged 80

12 June 2024, 08:00 BST

One of France's best-loved singer-songwriters, Françoise Hardy, has died at the age of 80.

"Mum is gone," her son, Thomas Dutronc, who is also a musician, wrote on social media.

Hardy burst on to the music scene in 1962 and became a cultural icon who inspired the likes of Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan. Known for her melancholy ballads, she symbolised France's Yé-yé (yeah yeah) pop movement, so-called because of its nod to English music.

Her most famous songs included All the Girls and Boys (Tous les garçons et les filles), It Hurts to Say Goodbye (Comment te dire adieu) and My Friend the Rose (Mon amie la rose).

Her biggest UK hit was All Over The World, an English-language version of her song Dans le monde entier, which reached number 16 in the charts in June 1965.
