Czech Birth Rate

Post by Xyls »

One of the biggest stories in Europe lately has undoubtedly been the declining birth rate. Not a single county on the continent currently sits above a natural TFR of 2.1. And in most countries this is getting worse.

However, there has been some exceptions to the trend of the TFR getting worse and interestingly it seems to come mostly from Central Europe. The Czech Republic maybe has had one of the most consistent rises in TFR of any country on earth over the last 20 years. In fact in 2022 it appears their TFR is now 1.83, up from 1.13 in 1999 and if trends were to continue may be above the 2.1 TFR by the end of the decade (assuming whatever trend is driving this continues.)

Thought of posting some articles here about the Czech situation as it may be interesting to look at when it comes to population decline situations going forward.
