Moody's cuts Israel's rating, warns of drop to 'junk'

September 27, 202411:19 PM GMT+1

Moody's on Friday downgraded Israel's credit rating two notches to "Baa1" from "A2" and maintained a negative outlook amid escalation of the conflict in the region with Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.

"The key driver for the downgrade is our view that geopolitical risk has intensified significantly further, to very high levels, with material negative consequences for Israel's creditworthiness in both the near and longer term," Moody's said.

The downgrade kept Israel's rating three notches into investment grade. However, Moody's warned that uncertainties over the country's security and its longer-term economic growth prospects "are much higher than is typical at the Baa rating level." A drop below that level would mean Israel would lose its investment grade rating.

"The ratings would likely be downgraded further, potentially by multiple notches, if the current heightened tensions with Hezbollah turned into a full-scale conflict," Moody's said.

Typically, a loss of investment grade rating means a spike in the cost of servicing debt, and it could force some investors to sell their holdings - further pressuring lower the market price of Israel's bonds.

No way this ends without foreign involvement or another war to the south.

Israel-Iran latest: Hezbollah 'detonates bomb' against Israeli forces; Lebanese army fires back 'for first time'
Thursday 3 October 2024 17:04, UK

The Lebanese army has fired back at Israeli forces for the first time since the conflict began a year ago, a Lebanese security source has told Reuters.

The army itself said it fired at the "source" of an Israeli strike on a Lebanese military post in the south that killed one of its soldiers.

The news comes just hours after the army reported another Lebanese soldier was killed and one injured after being targeted by an Israeli strike while on a rescue mission with the Red Cross.

Israel may launch symbolic attack on Iran nuclear-related facilities, says Ehud Barak
Fri 4 Oct 2024 05.45 BST

Israel is likely to mount a large-scale airstrike against Iran’s oil industry and possibly a symbolic attack on a military target related to its nuclear programme, former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak has predicted.

Barak said there was no doubt there would be an Israeli military response to Iran’s assault on Tuesday with over 180 ballistic missiles, most of which were intercepted, but some landed on and around densely populated areas and Israeli military bases.

“Israel has a compelling need, even an imperative, to respond. I think that no sovereign nation on Earth could fail to respond,” Barak said in an interview.

The former prime minister, who also served as defence minister, foreign minister and army chief of staff, said the model for the Israeli response could be seen in Sunday’s reprisal airstrikes against Houthi-controlled oil facilities, power plants and docks in the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, a day after Houthi fired missiles aimed at Israel’s international airport outside Tel Aviv.

“I think we might see something like that. It might be a massive attack, and it could be repeated more than once,” he told the Guardian. Joe Biden said on Thursday there had been discussions in Washington about a possible Israeli attack on Iran’s oil sector, but it not give any details or make clear whether the US would support such an assault.

US urges Israel to stop shooting at UN peacekeepers in Lebanon
11 October 2024

US President Joe Biden has said he is "absolutely, positively" urging Israel to stop firing at UN peacekeepers during its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, following two incidents in 48 hours.

On Friday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops were responsible for the incident, in which two Sri Lankan soldiers for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) were injured.

IDF soldiers operating around the Unifil base in Naqoura identified a threat and opened fire, the Israeli army said, adding the incident would be investigated "at the highest levels".

On Thursday, Unfil's two Indonesian soldiers were injured falling from an observation tower after an Israeli tank fired towards it.

The leaders of France, Italy and Spain issued a joint statement condemning Israel's actions, saying they were unjustifiable and should immediately come to an end.

UN says Israeli tanks forced entry into base in south Lebanon
13 October 2024, 13:17 BST

The UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon says Israeli tanks forced their way into one of its positions early on Sunday morning.

In a statement, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) said two Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tanks destroyed the main gate of a post in Ramyah, near the Israeli border, and "forcibly entered the position" to request it turn out its lights.

About two hours later, it said rounds were fired nearby that saw smoke enter the camp, causing 15 peacekeepers to suffer skin irritations and gastrointestinal reactions.

The IDF offered a different version of events, saying it had encroached on a Unifil position to evacuate soldiers who had been wounded by an anti-tank missile.

It said two soldiers had been "seriously injured" in the attack, with others suffering lesser degrees of injury.

Here's something a lot of people are completely unaware of, and could explain why the West is always such a craven little bitch to Israel

Essentially, if Israel is seriously threatened and feels they've been betrayed, they'll launch loads of nuclear weapons— at Europe as well, to take them down as "vengeance" for this betrayal, so if you live in any European capital from London to Moscow, you're basically fucked if Israel falls.
And hell, if Russia gets nuked, that could trigger their OWN Dead Hand system (provided they still have it active) to just launch all their nukes as well.
Or maybe Israel and Russia have an agreement that Russia faces no nuclear retribution in this case, which still doesn't exactly cover for English and French nuclear capabilities that might ALSO have Dead Hands active. If not, that's still the end of Europe.

Basically, Israel may have an atomic revolver pointed at the head of the world, and is daring us to disobey.
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

Iraq militias step up Israel attacks as Iran looks to junior proxies
Thu 17 Oct 2024 05.00 BST

Iran-linked militias in Iraq have launched about 40 attacks involving missiles, drones or rockets on Israel in the past two and a half weeks, the latest escalation in a largely clandestine proxy battle fought across a swath of the Middle East.

The attacks began in October last year when the war in Gaza started, but data compiled by the Washington Institute, a US-based thinktank, shows a sharp increase in their pace after Israel killed the Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike on 27 September.

Hezbollah, which was founded with Iranian sponsorship in Lebanon more than 40 years ago, is the keystone of the loose coalition of militant groups created by Iran over recent decades.

With Hamas significantly weakened after a year of war in Gaza, and Hezbollah now reeling under a continuing Israeli air and ground offensive in Lebanon, Tehran has looked to more junior members of the rough coalition of factions it has supported across the Middle East to strike its arch-enemy.
