Israel Eurovision entrant booed during rehearsal
3 hours ago
Israel's Eurovision contestant says "nothing will deter" her after getting booed during a dress rehearsal on Wednesday.
Eden Golan was performing her song Hurricane ahead of Thursday's semi-final in Malmo, Sweden.
In a statement, she said she was "proud to represent my country".
There have been several campaigns to block Israel from taking part in this year's contest following the outbreak of war in the Middle East.
But the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which hosts the event, has ruled Israel is allowed to compete.

People are nuts
Re: Israel's conflict with its neighbours
Groupthink in action.
When riled up and being swept up with the herd, people often don't think about the other side's point of view.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

Update on this: -Time_Traveller wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 8:39 am US vetoes Palestinian bid for full UN membership

The US has blocked a Palestinian bid to be recognised as a full member state at the United Nations.
Twelve of the 15-member Security Council were in favour, Britain and Switzerland abstained, but America vetoed the motion.
The US said it still strongly supported a two-state solution, but its vote was "acknowledgment that it will only come from direct negotiations between the parties".
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called it "unfair, unethical, and unjustified".
However, Israel's foreign minister Israel Katz praised the US for blocking the move.
This shows which side the West is on and as always there will not be a two-state solution under Netanyatu and his corrupt government.
UN general assembly calls on Security Council to admit Palestine as member
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-689836501 hour ago
The United Nations General Assembly has enhanced Palestine's rights within the organisation and called for it to be accepted as a member.
Palestine has had non-member observer state status since 2012, which allows some rights short of a full member.
Membership can only be decided upon by the UN Security Council.
The US would veto a bid for full membership in the council, but Friday's vote can be seen as a gesture of support for the Palestinians.
It comes amid reports that several European countries plan to recognise a Palestinian state.

ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3ggpe3qj6wo20 May 2024, 12:13 BST
The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has applied for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas's leader in Gaza for war crimes.
Karim Khan said there were reasonable grounds to believe that both men bore criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity from at least 7 October 2023.
The ICC, based in The Hague, has been investigating Israel's actions in the occupied territories for the past three years - and more recently the actions of Hamas as well.
Mr Netanyahu recently called the prospect of senior Israel figures joining the ICC's wanted list "an outrage of historic proportions".

UN's top court orders Israel to halt military operations in Rafah
15:07
– The International Court of Justice rules that Israel must halt its military offensive in Rafah in southern Gaza
– South Africa had asked the ICJ to order it as an emergency measure, saying Israel’s actions in Rafah amount to a “genocidal” operation and threaten the survival of the Palestinian people
– The request forms part of a larger case South Africa has brought before the court about Israel's actions in Gaza
– Israel has previously said the Rafah offensive is key to defeating Hamas following the 7 October attacks and called South Africa's case "wholly unfounded"
– The ICJ is the top UN court and can make legally binding rulings in disputes between countries, but has little way of enforcing its orders

"Israel is this: A very expensive American missile, launched by an even more expensive American plane, on makeshift tents of defenseless Palestinian refugees."

Israel’s official position remains unclear, and NBC News has reached out to the Isreali Prime Minister’s Office for confirmation.
Biden announced Friday that Israel had proposed a three-part plan that would ultimately lead to a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, as well as the release of all hostages who have been held there for the last eight months. It's “time for this war to end,” Biden said.
On Saturday, Netanyahu appeared to undermine the plan, releasing a statement that called a permanent cease-fire in Gaza a “nonstarter” until long-standing conditions for ending the war are met, reiterating that “Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.”
But in an interview Britain's Sunday Times, Ophir Falk, chief foreign policy advisor to Netanyahu, emphasized that Israel was not rejecting the deal, saying that it was “a deal we agreed to — it’s not a good deal but we dearly want the hostages released, all of them.”
