"We can and must prevent Ukraine from losing, but we cannot ensure that it wins." Anyone who keeps demanding that "weapon A must be delivered more quickly and weapon B in even greater quantities" is chasing "illusions." "Always increasing the dose when the medicine is not working" is "not convincing."

What I wonder is who and how could anyone have seen an optimistic "big picture" for UKR.

US/ARVN couldn't control SVN and invaded Laos and Cambodia...

Does Ukraine not have enough targets in Ukraine/Crimea?

NATO Allies to Erect Drone Wall Along Russia Border

Source: Newsweek

Published May 26, 2024 at 7:04 AM EDT

NATO states along the alliance's eastern flank will bolster their protection against "unfriendly countries" with unmanned vehicles, Lithuania's interior minister has said, as the world eyes the rapid pace of drone development fed by the war in Ukraine. "This is a completely new thing—a drone border from Norway to Poland, the purpose of which would be to protect our border with the help of drones and other technologies," Vilnius' Interior Minister, Agnė Bilotaitė, told domestic news agency BNS.

The drones will add to physical barriers and surveillance systems to "allow us to also protect ourselves from provocations by unfriendly countries, and prevent contraband," Bilotaitė said. The "wall" will also employ counter-drone technology, regional media reported.

More than two years of war in Ukraine has spurred on lightning-fast innovations in airborne, land-based and waterborne drones. Uncrewed technology fills the skies above Ukraine, with Moscow and Kyiv battling it out to stay ahead of the other.

"As a venture of this scale, it's unique," Estonia's Interior Minister Lauri Laanemets said in remarks reported by The Baltic Times. "Drone surveillance and anti-drone capability is crucial both for deterrence and for countering the influence activities of our eastern neighbor."

Here is how to end the ukraine war! We should give Ukraine 500 nukes in secret and the ability to launch them upto 1,000 miles. Not icbm's but medium range rockets. Ukraine should tell russia that they've developed nuclear bombs themselves and end with telling russia to get the f*ck out of their country or they're going to start launching them within a month.

Maybe as they state this reality they release video of their nuclear bombs being loaded onto rockets and labs showing scientist next to them.

Sure, because giving Ukraine 500 nukes and medium-range rockets wouldn't escalate tensions or risk catastrophic consequences at all.

Enough with the whataboutisms. This isn't about the Vietnam war, Cold war, or any other past war which has taken place before this conflict unless it directly pertains to such. Keep the topic relevant, ie on topic. We appreciate different views here yes, but not gaslighting arguments and non-sequiturs.

"To end the war..."
Russia just need to drop 2 atomic bombs on Ukrainian towns, they don't even need to be cities, no need to kill 200.000 civilians.
The first two are scot-free, aren't they?
(This could be considered callousness, whataboutism... or an effective strategy to end the war.)

Russia fighting corruption. Planning to join the EU?

"Russia’s FSB security service has pursued a series of high-level corruption cases against a deputy minister and department heads in what many insiders are now calling a purge in the defence ministry."

Are you going to participate in other threads as a fellow futurist? It seems that you're always posting in this specific thread.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.
