Pro-Ron DeSantis super PAC ends door-knocking in Nevada and Super Tuesday states
Source: nbc news

Never Back Down officials said they were reinvesting in the first three primary states and criticized what they see as a pro-Trump effort to tilt primary rules in his favor elsewhere.

Never Back Down, the super PAC backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign, has ceased its door-knocking operations in Nevada, home to a key early nominating contest, and California, a delegate-rich Super Tuesday state, officials confirmed Wednesday.

They added that in recent weeks, the group also ended its field operations in North Carolina and Texas, two additional states that vote on Super Tuesday in March.

Never Back Down had pitched a wide-ranging canvassing effort throughout the early nominating states as the centerpiece of its effort to help boost DeSantis in the primary — even letting reporters inside its door-knocking boot camp in Iowa where it trained hundreds of canvassers earlier this year. The super PAC had planned to spend $100 million on the effort.

The decision to fold its door-knocking operations in Nevada and some Super Tuesday states coincides with DeSantis’ rough summer, which has featured him struggling to gain traction against the GOP front-runner, former President Donald Trump, since launching his campaign in late May. In recent weeks, DeSantis’ campaign has publicly promoted resets and staff shake-ups as he seeks to generate momentum.

At its peak, Never Back Down employed more than 250 field staffers in those four states, though some had departed prior to the shutdown. In recent weeks, some of those who were assigned to the areas where there are cuts were offered opportunities elsewhere, including on door-knocking teams stood up by the super PAC in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina — early nominating states where the pro-DeSantis allies continue to knock on doors — officials said.

Trump says he's a victim of politically driven prosecutors. Most voters aren't buying it
After months of legal wrangling, a schedule for former President Trump’s four pending criminal trials is finally taking shape.

Last week, federal district Judge Tanya Chutkan set March 4 as the date to begin Trump’s trial in Washington on charges that he conspired to overturn the 2020 election. That’s one day before Super Tuesday, when Republican voters in 15 states including California will cast ballots in primary elections.

Trump and his supporters erupted, claiming that the start date proved that the case is politically motivated.

“A biased, Trump Hating Judge gave me … just what our corrupt government wanted, SUPER TUESDAY!” Trump roared on his social media account. “I will APPEAL!”

Trump's legal troubles are getting very intense now. I have no idea what to expect as far as the RICO charge in Georgia but surely some of the other slam dunk cases brought against him will result in convictions. Curious whether any states will actually manage to completely remove him from the ballot, particularly any swing states or red states. It may turn out to be impossible for him to win the presidency which would be quite a twist. Some people seem pretty sure of this happening, but its way above my pay grade.

Supreme Court to Decide Whether to Kick Trump Off Ballot
https://www.newsweek.com/supreme-court- ... 4577?amp=1
'The legal debate about whether or not former President Donald Trump should be allowed to appear on the 2024 ballot has made its way before the Supreme Court....The court distributed John Castro v. Donald Trump to the justices for conference on Wednesday ahead of the upcoming term, which will begin on October 2. Conference is to take place on September 26 and the case is expected to be decided on or before October 9.

Castro, a tax attorney running for the Republican nomination next year, sent his petition to the Supreme Court last month,...The lawsuit is seeking to argue that Trump should not be allowed to run for the White House based on section three of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies individuals from holding public office if they have "engaged in insurrection or rebellion" against the United States. While Trump has not been charged with insurrection, Castro is pointing to Trump's role in the January 6 Capitol riot.'

Politico: Former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers jumps into Michigan Senate race
Former Rep. Mike Rogers, a GOP moderate who once chaired the House Intelligence Committee, launched a bid Wednesday for Michigan’s open Senate seat.

Rogers, who served in Congress for 14 years, was recruited by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. His decision to enter the race gives GOP leaders a credible candidate in a state where they had been struggling to secure a strong recruit.

Michigan’s Senate race could determine who controls the narrowly divided chamber in 2025, though Republicans haven’t won a Senate seat in the state since 2004. Democrats’ dominance in the state legislature and governor’s mansion have further reduced the GOP’s footprint in the state.

The incumbent, Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, announced she would retire earlier this year. Many top Democrats quickly coalesced around Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) but actor Hill Harper is also running. Republicans need to flip just two seats to win back control of the Senate if they don’t win the White House.
