2022 United Kingdom Local Elections

Post by Time_Traveller »

Hi all, can you please put all 2022 UK Local elections within this thread. I will start with this one.

Local election 2022 results live: Labour make Tories suffer in London, more counting set to start across UK
Friday 6 May 2022

The results of yesterday’s election are rolling in and it looks like it’s been a bad night for Boris Johnson.

Thursday (May 5) saw millions of Britons descend on polling stations to cast their votes in this year’s crucial local poll.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens have all made gains at the expense of the Conservatives.

There are thousands of council seats up for grabs, with the results painting a picture of the national mood after partygate and in the middle of the cost of the living crisis.

Here are the key development so far:

[*]Labour has won big in London, taking dozens of seats from the Tories in Boris Johnson’s own backyard
[*]Sadiq Khan said ‘history has been made’ as Labour seized control of councils in Wandsworth, Westminster and Barnet
[*]The prime minister is facing a backlash from some within his own party
[*]The Liberal Democrats and Greens have also made significant gains overnight.
[*]Counting is set to get under way in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland shortly

Um, this wasn't a General Election.
A vote for Trump, a third party candidate, or no vote at all, is a vote for a dystopian future.

Boris Johnson looks to be in trouble with these local election results
Fri 6 May 2022

Wandsworth, Westminster, West Oxfordshire – it is hard to think of more quintessentially Conservative places than Margaret Thatcher’s favourite council; the borough that is home to swanky Mayfair, or David Cameron’s back yard.

Yet as the Conservatives wake up on Friday morning, they have lost all three – Wandsworth and Westminster to Labour, and West Oxfordshire to no overall control, as the Liberal Democrats march onwards in the blue wall.

Scotland and Wales are yet to start declaring results, but Friday already looks like being a very bad day for Boris Johnson.

Already, the Liberal Democrats feel vindicated in their argument that decent, longtime Tory voters are disgusted at Johnson’s record, and turning to them – not just in West Oxfordshire but in Merton in south-west London, too.

Green Party biggest winner in Oxford City Council election
3 hrs ago

THE Green Party was the biggest winner in Oxford’s city council elections, gaining three seats with little in the way of shocks across the board.

With elections for all 24 wards in Oxford, and one councillor being elected for each ward, the Greens won three seats off other parties, and four on the night.

Labour meanwhile lost two seats, but still won the vote in 15 wards.

Perhaps the biggest shock of the night was Green candidate Lois Muddiman taking Colin Cook’s Osney and St Thomas ward seat.

Northern Ireland election results map: Latest updates on Assembly election and Sinn Fein results
May 6, 2022

For the first time in Northern Ireland’s 100-year existence, a party that supports a united Ireland could become the largest party.

Sinn Fein was polling several points ahead of the loyalist DUP when voters went to the polls on Thursday.

The Northern Ireland Assembly is often referred to as Stormont, because of the parliament buildings’ location in the Stormont Estate area of Belfast.

The democratically elected body comprises 90 members, and makes key decisions for Northern Ireland that fall outside the remit of the UK Government.

The verification of ballots began at 8am, with the first results expected this afternoon.

Local elections live: Tories lose more than 200 seats but Lib Dem gains could spook Tory MPs weighing up Boris Johnson's future most
Friday 6 May 2022

The Conservatives face losing their Commons majority if local election results are replicated at a general election, according to a Sky News projection.

Analysis suggests that it would mean a hung parliament with Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Tories remaining the largest party at Westminster but falling 48 seats short of an overall majority.

The projection is based on local election results from 1,700 wards and an analysis of change in vote share since 2018 across 87 local authorities.

It predicts that the Conservatives would have 278 seats, just seven more than Labour on 271.

Lib Dems set to join forces with Labour and the Greens to take control of West Oxfordshire District Council
6th May

LEADER-in-waiting Andy Graham confirmed the Liberal Democrats are set to join forces with Labour and the Green Party to take control of West Oxfordshire District Council.

The Liberal Democrats gained five seats from the Conservatives with Labour and the Greens bagging another one each on a bruising night at the ballot box for the Tories.

Just four of the 11 seats being defended by the party in power remained blue. Deputy leader David Harvey and cabinet member Merilyn Davies were the high-profile casualties.

A Liberal-Labour-Green alliance would resemble the Fair Deal Alliance put together to change the guard at Oxfordshire County Council last year but Cllr Graham wants any new West Oxfordshire administration to make its own way.

If formed, a Liberal-Labour-Green alliance would have 26 of West Oxfordshire’s 49 seats.
