Trump charged in superseding indictment in election interference case following SCOTUS ruling

"Today, a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia returned a superseding indictment, ECF No. 226, charging the defendant with the same criminal offenses that were charged in the original indictment," a Justice Department spokesperson said Tuesday.
"The superseding indictment, which was presented to a new grand jury that had not previously heard evidence in this case, reflects the Government’s efforts to respect and implement the Supreme Court’s holdings and remand instructions," the spokesperson said.
Trump last August pleaded not guilty to federal charges of undertaking a "criminal scheme" to overturn the results of the 2020 election in an effort to subvert democracy and remain in power. Last month, in a blockbuster decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Trump is entitled to immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts undertaken while in office, and sent the case back to the trial court to sort out which charges against him can stand.

Indictment calls out RT and suspects (PDF)
A new Department of Justice indictment unsealed on Wednesday accuses a Tennessee-based content company with several high profile right-wing personalities on its roster of being part of a Russian influence operation, working to infiltrate U.S. media with the Kremlin’s propaganda.
(suspected unnamed company) Tenet Media’s website declares “fearless voices live here,” and describes itself as “a network of heterodox commentators that focus on Western political and cultural issues.” Creators currently listed on the site and featuring in videos on its YouTube channel include Dave Rubin, Benny Johnson, Tim Pool, Lauren Southern, Tayler Hansen, and Matt Christiansen.
...
Kalashnikov and Afanasyeva were employed by RT, formerly known as Russia Today, a Russian state-controlled media outlet, according to the indictment, which describes how RT has launched several “covert projects” that are “designed to shape public opinion” in the U.S. and other Western countries, including this alleged “funding and direction of a Tennessee-based online content creation company.”
...
The indictment alleges that Kalashnikov and Afanasyeva directed the scheme from Moscow using multiple fake identities and shell companies, funneling nearly $10 million to secretly finance and direct the activities of the Tennessee company, which included posting video content on multiple social media platforms that included TikTok, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. Since the company launched in November 2023, the indictment alleges, it has posted nearly 2,000 videos that have more than 16 million views just on YouTube.

Judge delays Trump hush money sentencing until after Election Day
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 08398.html24 minutes ago
Donald Trump will not be sentenced in his hush money case until after the presidential election in November, as the judge overseeing the criminal case against the former president moved his imminent court date to avoid the appearance of political interference in the crucial weeks before Election Day.
Trump, the first president to be convicted of a crime, will not face Justice Juan Merchan in a Manhattan courtroom until November 26, nearly six months after a unanimous jury found him guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
Judge Merchan’s decision on Friday marks a significant victory for the Republican presidential nominee, who is also pushing the judge to toss his conviction as he campaigns on a narrative of political persecution and retribution against a justice system he accuses of conspiring against him.
The judge had already delayed Trump’s sentencing to September 18 after initially scheduling Trump’s date in court for July 11.
He agreed to Trump’s first request to push back the hearing while he considered his arguments to toss the jury’s verdict in the wake of the Supreme Court’s “immunity” decision, which determined that presidents can be shielded from some criminal prosecution for official acts carried out while in office.
“In the quantum multiverse, every choice, every decision you've ever and never made exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes.”

Trump threatens to jail adversaries for 'unscrupulous behavior' if he wins

With just days to go before his first – and likely only – debate against Kamala Harris, Donald Trump posted a warning on his social media site threatening to jail those “involved in unscrupulous behavior” this election, which he said would be under intense scrutiny.
“WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again,” the former president wrote, again trying to sow doubt about the integrity of November’s election, even though cheating is incredibly rare.
SNIP
Trump’s message represents his latest threat to use the office of the presidency to exact retribution if he wins a second term in the oval office. There is no evidence of the kind of fraud he continues to insist marred the 2020 election that he lost to Joe Biden. In fact, dozens of courts, Republican state officials and his own administration have said he lost fairly.
Just days ago, Trump himself acknowledged in a podcast interview that he had indeed “lost”, though he claimed it was “by a whisker” when in fact he was defeated 306-232 in the electoral college and lost the popular vote by more than 7m.
