Sharing pornographic deepfakes to be illegal in England and Wales
3 hours ago
A planned new law would make sharing pornographic deepfakes without consent a crime in England and Wales.
Tackling the rise in manipulated images, where a person's face is put on someone else's body, is part of a crackdown on the abuse of intimate pictures in the Online Safety Bill.
This law would also make it easier to charge people with sharing intimate photos without consent.
Prosecutors would no longer need to prove they intended to cause distress.
In some cases under the existing law, men have admitted sharing women's intimate images without consent, but have not been prosecuted because they said they did not intend to cause any harm.
The government says around one in 14 adults in England and Wales say they have been threatened with their intimate images being shared against their will.
It also says there are growing global concerns about technology being used to create fake pornographic images and video, with one website which creates nude images from clothed ones receiving 38 million visits last year.

A thought that I just had a few minutes ago - this technology might be the only way we can truly enjoy our current archive of video media in the future the same way we do now. I don't know if this is true or not, maybe someone can fact check me, but I remember reading or hearing many years ago that cats register images faster than humans do; so to a cat our movies and tv shows seem more like a sped up PowerPoint presentation than a continuous thing. We register images slower, so the frame rate can be smaller while still giving us the illusion that everything is moving at real time speed. In the future transhumans or posthumans are likely to have advanced this aspect of ourselves so we process images faster, so we'll notice the frame rate of all current and prior videos. So to enjoy Casablanca or The Sound of Music, AI might be needed to fill in those missing frames our brains can't even register now.

Re: Synthetic Media & Generative AI News and Discussions
got into another argument with another artist who is demanding all AI art be banned because it's 'stealing from other artists without their consent'. LIke seriously? Tell me you don't know a thing about machine learning without telling me you don't know anything about machine learning.
there's a real easy way to grasp that your beliefs are unfounded. I want you to go find one of my hand painted or drawn works that an AI has stolen in the volumes of content created by AI art generators. I'll even give you a better chance, find me an AI art generation programs work stolen from Norman Rockwell, HR Gieger, or Dr.Suess. Not one in their style that is an original, but stolen. Doesn't even have to be the whole image. Find me Hortons eyeball in an artwork callaged together from an AI generated work.
It's the same bullshit argument people made some years back about Pose theft in artwork. Where two people created art in different styles, themes and characters; but the poses were similar. Wouldn't surprise me if they believed in the healing power of crystals and that they cured their childs vaccine injury through essential oils.

where, argument? social media.
Where the proposed ban? everywhere. they want nobody to use this 'thieving' software. Because "it steals artist work without asking" and allow something something to earn money from an artists work without their permission somehow.
Re: Synthetic Media & Generative AI News and Discussions
I was on an adult website recently, discovered some nice pictures, looked for the artist tag, and discovered that it was made by AI. Apparently people are already using stable diffusion to create erotic art works.
So that's a thing that exists now. What a time to be alive.

I think this is all another version of mechanization and robotization taking people's jobs away. I suppose it is hard enough for creative artists to compete against other creative artists. To compete against AI must be especially threatening and/or humiliating.
The emotional impulses seem similar to the Luddites.
Perhaps if artists can be trained to use the new technologies and have access to the relevant hardware and software. That would seem fair given their earlier contribution to the art world. I suspect it is probably a case of easier said than done, especially if there is an insistence on measuring past contributions. How do you calibrate such a thing?

Was this (see link) moved from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2703
I don't mind if it was, but a heads up with links would be nice in such cases. Said links going in both directions. Just my two cents.

Let's provide them with basic income and their reasons for feeling threatened go away. In that case, art once again becomes a solitary endeavor of passion. Nearly all of the artists I know do it largely for themselves but they admit they still need to make money to make ends meet. If we take away the financial part of the equation, they go will back to their initial reason for being involved in this field. I suspect they will largely not care about what AI will do for art.caltrek wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 3:11 pm I think this is all another version of mechanization and robotization taking people's jobs away. To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

Lol! I saw words on a differ topic related thread on Reddit about this. The future is gonna be weird indeed when AI is making porn!Vakanai wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:38 am I was on an adult website recently, discovered some nice pictures, looked for the artist tag, and discovered that it was made by AI. It's already doing it, it's just that many can't or won't afford it.Nanotechandmorefuture wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 9:40 pmLol! I saw words on a differ topic related thread on Reddit about this. What to Expect from AI in 2023

Read more here: https://techcrunch.com/2022/12/26/what- ... in-2023/](TechCrunch) As a rather commercially successful author once wrote, “the night is dark and full of terrors, the day bright and beautiful and full of hope.” It’s fitting imagery for AI, which like all tech has its upsides and downsides.
Art-generating models like Stable Diffusion, for instance, have led to incredible outpourings of creativity, powering apps and even entirely new business models. On the other hand, its open source nature lets bad actors use it to create deepfakes at scale — all while artists protest that it’s profiting off of their work.
What’s on deck for AI in 2023? Will regulation rein in the worst of what AI brings, or are the floodgates open? Will powerful, transformative new forms of AI emerge, à la ChatGPT, disrupting industries once thought safe from automation?
Don't mourn, organize.
