Re: Synthetic Media & Deepfakes News and Discussions
If what you predict is true Yuli then this is going to completely destroy the pornographic film industry world wide. Nothing will be able to compete with personally curated pornographic content that feeds the user exactly what they want.

Re: Everything is not getting worse
People living in generation alpha will know greater bounty than any generation that has ever existed on this Earth. The generation that follows them will likely know even greater bounty, this is not new, the rate of change is increasing as someone who lived in the year 1700 may not have noticed much...

Re: Everything is not getting worse
I'm going to reply to your two questions separately. First, there is absolutely no debate as to whether any aspect of general life is superior to life even 70 years ago. To state the obvious, people born in 2022 are not considered to be the last letter of the alphabet. They are considered to be the ...

Re: Everything is not getting worse
It's fairly obvious at this stage that the future is clearly superior to the past. If you were fortunate enough to be born in the year 2022 the difference in quality of life between yourself and someone born 100 years before you, even into unbelievable wealth and power is almost inconceivable. Thing...

Re: The Singularity - Official Thread
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysFav0b472w Looking at this robot trying to do things, I don't see how possibly the Singularity could be near. You have to have huge amounts of belief to think that it's near. https://www.mobilephonehistory.co.uk/lists/1992_phones.jpg This is what a mobile phone look...

Re: Supercomputing News and Discussions
graph This is wrong, wjfox. $1000 PC (whether taking inflation into consideration or not) in 2020 can have multiple teraflops, which is 10^12. RTX 3070 with $499 MSRP has 20.31*10^12 flops, RTX 3070 Max-Q (laptop) with TDP of 80 watts has 13.21 teraflops (13.21*10^12). And TOP500 supercomputers are...

Re: Importance of money in the future
To combat what Funkervogt suggested about humanity not being on track to achieve the singularity I would state that the timeframe of after 2005 and before 2040 is astronomically large in terms of technological progress, we still have nearly two decades until the 2040's and that same space of time co...

Re: Technological Unemployment News & Discussions
Most the graphs that depict unemployment often do so with the majority of it occurring at the later end of the decade, more than half the people that will be made unemployed by automation will work until maybe 2027 or 2028, only a minor amount will become unemployed in the 2020-2025 timeframe

Re: The Singularity - Official Thread
I would hesitate to say that AI improves quite significantly faster than any human does, it takes literal years for human beings to conceptualize something as basic object permanence, AI has the capacity to be something rather similar to that, in almost all fields of it's application that I have see...

Re: Metaculus' predictions about AI
It is not a matter of intelligence as much as it is a matter of perspective, the sheer concept of exponential growth and thinking is not something that is easily understood but imagine trying to explain what GPT-4 or the equivalent may look like to someone in the year 2015. It would be three entire ...
