10th September 2025 World's first stair-climbing robot vacuum Dreame's new Cyber X, revealed at IFA 2025, can tackle a major weakness of robot vacuums – the inability to clean multiple floors – with a dedicated stair-climbing module that promises whole-home convenience.
Current domestic robot vacuums fall short when it comes to multi-floor homes. You must carry them up or down stairs – or settle for separate devices per floor – undermining the whole point of hands-off convenience. Some innovators have tried to fix this. The Migo Robotics "Ascender" on Kickstarter promised autonomous stair hopping but never made it to market. No-one else has truly cracked reliable stair climbing – until now. Enter the Cyber X from Dreame Technology, unveiled at this week's IFA 2025 in Berlin. Dreame, a smart-appliance company founded in 2017 and based in Suzhou, China, specialises in intelligent cleaning devices and has earned backing from Xiaomi and others. The Cyber X comprises three components – the robot vacuum, a Bionic QuadTrack stair-climbing module, and a base station. The QuadTrack docks the vacuum, then carries it up or down staircase steps up to 25 cm tall at around 0.2 m/s, dynamically adapting to varying widths and geometries for a safe and stable climb. Its 3DAdapt vision system with lasers and AI cameras helps to measure tread in real time and adjust the speed and braking power accordingly.
Both parts share 6,400 mAh batteries, enabling coverage across up to five floors in a single session. The system uses triple braking protection plus rubber-treaded tracks for traction. Dreame showcased Cyber X alongside other innovations at IFA 2025 – including its Aqua Series and the arm-equipped Cyber 10 Ultra – the latter able to switch vacuum heads to clean between chair legs, under cabinets, and in deep corners. Pricing and release details for Cyber X are unconfirmed, but industry watchers expect it to exceed $2,500 if it reaches the market. Cyber X marks an important step forward for domestic robotics and home automation. It points to a near future when household robots can scale stairs as easily as humans do – bringing seamless, whole-home cleaning closer than ever.
