EX_MACHINA

EX_MACHINA is a British sci-fi thriller that presents a chilling vision of the not-too-distant future of artificial intelligence. Set in the mountain retreat of a gifted internet billionaire, it depicts a young man who takes part in a strange experiment: testing an advanced AI, housed inside the body of a beautiful robot girl. However, the experiment descends into a dark psychological battle – where loyalties are torn between man and machine. The movie explores big ideas about the nature of consciousness, emotion, sexuality, truth and lies.

“I feel more attached to this film, I feel more strongly about this film than anything I’ve worked on up till now,” says writer and director Alex Garland in an interview with The Guardian. “I think it’s the best-realised thing I’ve done.”

Movie review site Rotten Tomatoes has 32 reviews, with 94% of them being positive, while on IMDB the current score is 8.0. The magazine New Scientist in a multipage review says: "It is a rare thing to see a movie about science that takes no prisoners intellectually... [It] is a stylish, spare and cerebral psycho-techno thriller, which gives a much-needed shot in the arm for smart science fiction."

EX_MACHINA is currently showing at UK cinemas and will be released in the USA on 10th April. For more info, visit the Facebook page.
